“I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2010

This hotel is overpriced for what it offers. The rooms are old and nothing works. The bed was horrible and walls are paper thin. Our TV did not work and the shower head was busted. When we told the front desk they sent someone to verify our concerns. I was told I should have looked at the wiring on the tv and fixed it myself. I was also told all of their showers had no pressure like the one in our room. I can only assume that means they are all busted. The woman at the desk went out of her way to discount our stay but her manager only allowed her to discount it $8.00. We will be back in Palo Alto many more times in the future and I can absolutely tell you we would never stay here again.

“Stay on top floor!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

My room was on the bottom floor and I couldn't sleep all night. You hear every footstep of the people above you. You hear them take a shower, flush the toilet, use the sink, and blow dry their hair. I was next to the outside stairs and I heard every step taken up and down the stairs. Staff was helpful and switched my room when I complained. Room was reasonably clean but smelled strongly of pine cleaner. The breakfast offered a wide variety of choices, but quality was nothing to write home about. I would only stay here again if I was guaranteed a top floor room away from the stairs.

“All-around great bargain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

OK, We saw the mixed reviews and only two stars, so we were a little apprehensive. But we were pleasantly surprised with what we found. We were within two miles of our destination - Stanford. The staff was very friendly and helpful and our room was clean and nicely appointed except for the chairs, which were a little dated. As another guest reported, we also were given an upgrade to a two-room, one-bath suite. Traveling with two teens, one boy and one girl, life can get complicated! This solved many problems. Since this was such a nice bonus for us, I inquired and was told that you can request the two-bedroom suite and it is typically priced only about $10.00 more than a room with two king beds. Well worth the extra, if you ask me. As for things close by -- what mattered to us was that just across the street we could find a coin laundry , a bagel/coffee shop, and a small fresh produce/international market. Nothing fancy, but typically what our traveling family needs. The hotel breakfast was decent -- more than just danish and coffee. We could choose to make waffles, have cereal, yogurt, bacon, sausage, etc. Finally, we had our two dogs along and they were welcome for a fee of $20.00 EACH. I thought $20.00 FOR BOTH would be more reasonable, but my husband said that when you think about what some dogs might do to a room, this was a fair price. We would definitely recommend this to a friend. Oh, and it is really just off of El Camino, which made it quieter than you might expect. You have to turn onto Ventura to get to the hotel driveway.

“Very comfortable. Great experience.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

Picked this hotel because of its location near Stanford. We had reserved one room with 2 queens for my wife, my son and me. When we arrived, they had upgraded us to room 226 - a king bed with an adjoining second bedroom with another king. The main room was small, but having the extra bedroom made all the difference. Second bedroom even had its own flat-screen TV! Beds were the most comfortable we've ever slept in - away from home, that is. Room was very clean - even smelled a hint of bleach as we walked in.

Excellent customer service. Very good breakfast, including cereal, muffins/danish/toast/bagels, OJ, hard-boiled eggs, waffle-maker, has browns, bacon, sausage, yogurt, bananas/apples, coffee, milk.

There's a credit union right next door with a no-fee ATM. A small market across the street. Restaurants within walking distance. Stanford is a 15-minute bus ride away - the bus stop is 1 1/2 blocks from the hotel.

The only downside is the very slow guest computer in the lobby. Took FOREVER to load a page, and it is not connected to a printer. No pool or hot tub. No airport shuttle.

Overall, we'd stay there again in a heartbeat. Enjoy!

“You get what you pay for, cheap, not quality”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

I took a business trip with colleagues and stayed two nights at the Quality Inn in Palo Alto. My room was hot when I entered it since the airconditioning was off. The carpet under the airconditioning unit was soaking wet and covered 3 feet wide by 2 feet in length, so this appeared to be an on going problem.

It was Shark Week on the Discovery channel and I found out that the cable box would lose signal every couple minutes and the picture would pixelize and freeze up, go black and then come back, very irritating. The walls were very thin, I could hear conversations either downstairs or next door. They allow dogs and there was a prolific barker nearby that started barking early in the morning.

The second day the maid service cleaned the room with really strong detergent, that smelled like pinesol, bleach, and ammonia. It was so over powering I opened my window for a couple of hours to help air it out, but the smell lingered. I was sick the next day from breathing in this chemical concoction.

If you are traveling on business, I do not recommend this hotel. If you have a hardy nose and do not mind the noise and prefer cheap hotels over quality, then this is the place for you. If you are traveling with infants I would stay away. I myself will never stay here again, even if my company books it, I will go somewhere else.
