My family just returned home from a 4 night getaway trip to Palm Springs. When we first drove up to the Desert Vacation Villas it reminded us of an old and small apartment complex. Our opinion didn't change much once inside the unit, it was dated. The only real amenity is a nice but small pool. They have some cute mid-century type metal umbrellas in the pool area that give it a kind of cool vibe. But nothing else to the property. They are currently relandscaping the entire grounds so all we saw were dirt mounds and a few treees. It really looks like they are trying to make this a nicer facility but it is still under transformation. On the upside, the unit was clean and quiet and the beds were comfortable. We also found the kitchen well supplied and clean. Our unit did have a slight ant problem and when we told the front office they kindly waived our cleaning fee- it seems they spray for ants 2 times a week - so they are trying. The Villas are within walking distance to the Rivera and we enjoyed a a great dinner there with the kids.

It's a home away from home. I stayed in a remodeled unit on the ground floor (updated kitchens and bathrooms). Their are only two floors to the entire resort; it's just like owning a condo in the desert. There is nothing touristy about the villas. Directly up the street is Dowtown Palm Springs. It is within walking distance from the resort. (albeit a little hike) Some of the most beautiful real estate in Palm Springs is down the street from the villas. The famous Kauffmann House where Barry Manilow lived is a few houses away. Other fabulous and celebrity homes are around the corner. It's down the street from the Tram. Again I say, Location, Location, Location. Desert Vacation Villas is a timeshare property. Try renting from an owner and you'll find the rates are even lower.

I stayed at the Villas with a group of girls for a long weekend. The condo was large enough for our group to have space to relax and not feel too crowded. People have said that the decor is dated and needs replacing. Everything in our unit was fine and in good working condition, maybe just a little worn in places. The shower in the main bathroom was very cramped, but still usable. The beds in the second bedroom were not the most comfortable, but for a few nights it wasn't too bad.

We spent a lot of time in the pool area and had no trouble finding lounge chairs or tables. Staff were very helpful with any questions we had.

There is a mini mart just 1/2 a block down the street that carries most of the basics that you might need. There are a few places to eat within a few blocks of the hotel, but we didn't check any of them out. The Villas are not close walking distance to downtown Palm Springs, but it is just a short drive. If you like Asian food, you need to check out Wang's. For good sangria, try Azul. For excellent pizza, go to Bill's Pizza - their BBQ Chicken pizza was amazing.

We stayed here for 6 nights in February, with our parents (around age 70). Nice and comfortable 2 bedroom, 2 bath accommodations, although furniture and decor is dated. Pool area is very nice as well. The resort is small (36 units), so does not have as many amenities as a larger resort, but this made it easier to get around - all of the units were very close to the quaint pool area. The resort is on the edge of a lovely residential area, and is close to downtown. Try Rick's Desert Grill, only half a block away, for excellent American-Cuban food.
