As platinum Starwood members we have stayed at many Starwood
hotels. We just completed our third stay at the Parker the weekend prior to Christmas. I am pleased to report the Parker Palm Springs is still a wonderful hotel like no other. While there is still room for improvement, this hotel is a definite destination for those wanting a first class Palm Springs vacation. Here are a few highlights:
Gardens- This hotel has some of the most beautiful hotel gardens we have ever seen. Fruit trees are plentiful and provide free snacks for all (oranges, grapefruits, and lemons). The grounds provided private areas for reading, sunning, or just relaxing. We loved the hammocks and fire pit area. Pools are beautiful and heated. Outdoor tennis and chess is available. The outdoor lemonade stand was a quaint feature.
Unique Decor- This hotel has been decorated in vintage 1970's Palm Springs. It felt just like we were "back in the day". I must warn you this type of period decorating is not appreciated by all, but we loved it. It truly added to the total experience of out stay.
Resort Fee - Please note you will be charged a $30 resort fee each day. It includes valet parking, wi-fi, gym, pools, etc. Just make sure you factor this cost into your total budget. This type of fee has become customary for all Starwood Resorts, similar to an airline charging for baggage.
Rooms - This time we were given a room in the north building on the first floor. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Chairs, rugs, and pictures were all 70' s motif. Our room faced the gardens and had a wonderful patio with table, chairs, and round lounge with a view of the mountains. The north building has it's own separate pool and hot tub. We loved the smorgasbord of complimentary soaps, lotions, and extras in the bathroom It was one of the best combination of products I've ever seen.
Location - We loved the location of the Parker. It is just minutes from downtown Palm Springs. The two other Starwood properties in town are further away and in remote locations. We have stayed at both (Westin Mission Hills & Palm Desert). The Parker is by far the best Starwood choice in town.
Here are a few constructive points:
- no complimentary coffee in room or lobby. Note other reviews mention complimentary coffee is provided only upon request with wake up call. Not sure why it's so difficult to get a free cup a coffee?
- no clocks, radio, or I-pod player is available in rooms.
- customer service was almost non-existent throughout our stay. We rarely saw staff and phones call assistance took several minutes.
- showers/tubs need updating. Shower heads were older and lighting was poor once the shower curtain was pulled closed.
Overall, we loved this hotel. It is a wonderful one-of -a-kind hotel every loyal Starwood member should experience. We'll definitely pay a return visit.
