“Wonderful location and price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

We have stayed here many times and have never been disappointed. The location is great and the price is within our budget. Most of our favorites restaurants are very close by as well as the golf courses we like to play. We keep coming back, over and over again. We did not get to go to the pool this time but we were able to see it from our room.

“Great hotel for one-night getaway!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

My husband and I visited this hotel for one night in October for a little getaway. (We're from L.A)

We had a good experience, but would probably stay closer to "the action" in Palm Springs next time.

We were given a ground floor room overlooking a courtyard and the pool. The room had hard wood floor which was kind of unique. The paint in the bath tub had seen better days, and it was an older style tube TV... but other than that everything else felt modern and clean.

We used the jacuzzi in the evening and the chlorine smell was extremely strong...In the morning we used it again and it wasn't so bad though.

Breakfast is included and they give you 2 vouchers to turn in. They have a limited menu with made to order items. The food was good but I felt a little pressured that I wouldn't be able to make any changes or substitutions. So basically my option was healthy or not healthy. I couldn't have pancakes and fruit, for example. It was either pancakes and sausage/bacon or fruit and cereal. But hey - it's free - so I shouldn't really complain (I went with the unhealthy and it tasted great). We sat outside under a pretty boganvilla tree so it was very pleasant.

Ultimately - the hotel met our needs, but wasn't anything spectacular. I'm happy with that though. There are plenty of hotels in the area that looked run down and sketchy so if I wanted to go to Palm Dessert again and was on a budget I would consider the Best Western Plus.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the Courtyard/pool. They have balconies.

“Disorganized”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

Three things I look for in a hotel are clean, quiet, and convenient. The Best Western Plus Palm Desert (California) fulfilled those requirements for me however they blew it in another way. It goes without saying that I expect whatever room amenities are included actually work. In this case the TV problems were pathetic.

The in-room TV channel listing showed dozens of available choices but only a few actually worked. I called the front desk to complain and they literally told me that our set must be one of the older models that does not receive all the channels so they would bring us a new one.

After half an hour of watching cartoons I called the front desk again to inquire about our replacement TV. The phone just rang and rang for several minutes with no answer. Eventually the ringing sound changed to a dial tone. So I hit the "O" button once more and once again the phone just rang and rang for several more minutes. Finally the front desk clerk picked up and told me he had been busy. Obviously he knew the phone had been ringing for a long time and he was ignoring me. He said he would have the replacement TV to us in a half hour.

Sure enough, a full hour after my initial complaint he knocks on our door and takes our defective TV to another room nearby where he intended to swap it for the better one in that room. It seems that he not only knew our TV was bad before he rented the room to us but he knew exactly where a better one could be found. I have to wonder why he didn't just check us into that room in the first place.

While he is exchanging the TV's we went out to dinner. When we returned hours later we discovered that the remote control had disappeared. I called the front desk again. He said he would bring us another remote. Half an hour later I walked up to the front office and found the desk clerk lounging in the breakfast room watching TV with his feet up on a table. He was on his break I suppose while he makes us wait for a new remote control. I spotted another employee in the back office fiddling with a bunch of remotes swapping batteries. Apparently he was trying to find one that works.

Finally he handed me one and said he would check on us in a few minutes to make sure everything was OK. He never did show up at our room but fortunately the new remote and the replacement TV worked fine - and it only took four hours to get to that point.

This is an old hotel with peeling paint in our room and 1950's era yellow plastic tub-shower. I don't know how they justify calling this property a "resort." We had booked this place in advance at a discounted price using "Hotels.com." I have to wonder if this Best Western Plus actually has better rooms, but reserves their steerage class rooms for customers like us who use discounter web sites.

“Clean Place With a Nice Breakfast - Great Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

I stayed here over Christmas while visiting family. I paid an extra $10 and got the King Suite. I recommend doing that. My mom stayed in a regular room with two queen beds. The king suite actually has a living room and a separate bedroom. Lots of space. While the regular room my mom was in was smaller it was nicely redecorated in bright colors and my larger space was just blah in regards to decorating. But the bed was great in the king suite! Super plushy top on the mattress with lots of pillows. I slept very well. The breakfast came with the room and it's freshly made. I ordered the two eggs any style, bacon, and hash browns. Simple and delicious start to the day. The cooks and the front desk folks were all smiles and nice.

“great location for golf”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

many rooms being renovated as older property. Staff helpful when information required. All amenities present which we required for our stay. Bed very comfortable and location quiet. Not much time for the pool area as the weather was below normal for most of the stay. The breakfast was great. Cooked to order. If you like to walk may do so down to El Pseo and take in all the happpy hour specials.

Room Tip: the king bed suite rooms were nice as separate from living room and away from mainstreet
