When traveling with kids, we like to stay in hotels/motels with real suites. One of the best, and most affordable, is Homewood Suites. While they are pretty much "cookie-cutter" hotels, they are comfortable and give lots of space when traveling with a family. It is nice to have a usable kitchen, not to mention the free breakfast every day. There's even a free dinner Mon. thru Thurs., though we prefer to try the local restaurants. This hotel was clean, quiet, and right off the I-10. Though it is a 10-minute drive to the center of Palm Desert, being able to have a separate bedroom for us parents makes it worthwhile.

I very much enjoyed my three night stay at the Homewood Suites in Palm Desert. My large suite was very quiet and clean, and the price was right. I was in town to play golf with friends so I did not spend a lot of time at the hotel. I used the fitness center daily, and would rate it average for a budget hotel. My favorite part was the ability to walk to a few resteraunts in the mini-mall where the hotel is located. I can recommend Cafe Mendoza, just a few hundred yards away, for great mexican food.

My family of 4 stayed there this past weekend for a lacrosse tournament, and it was great. Clean, comfortable, easily accessible from the freeway and great, complimentary hot breakfast. Mini kitchen with full fridge, dishwasher, dishes and small, 2 burner stovetop electric range. We ordered "take out" from Cafe Mendoza, which is in the same parking lot. It's a new shopping center, so not a lot in it right now, but we weren't looking for local entertainment, etc., as we were busy w/ the tournament. Would definitely stay there again for any future family events.

We went with our older teenage kids for a five night stay at Homewood Suites. Our goal was to spend more time outdoors (desert hiking, Joshua Tree National Forest etc.), so the assumption was that we did not need to stay at some expensive desert resort to rest and relax at night. We were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful our actual stay was at Homewood, the rooms are large, the breakfast nice and warm in the morning (included in the price), and when we came back in the evening a nice cold beer or wine reception (also included in the price). The staff very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend it if your plan is to have a decent place to stay at night while spending most of the day site seeing, however if u r looking for a resort like atmosphere, with umbrella drinks, green gardens and golf links etc., this ain't it.
