After driving from san Francisco on a cold damp day in late July it was lovely to be greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. Pacific gardens Inn and pacific grove is like stepping back in time. The rooms are not ultra modern, but true to phoographs( sheets and blankets on the beds) but they are clean, large and provided all the necessary facilities. The only disappointment was the carpet felt a bit worse for wear. The large open fire was a blessing as we had gotten chilled to the bone in San francisco. Kelly welcomed us with great enthusiasm and showed us to our room (206 second floor as requested on booking). She was a wealth of information and advised us of local eateries/things to do.The lobby area with easy chairs and fireplace was a nice place to sit for breakfast and afternoon cheese and wine and provided an opportunity to chat with other visitors if wanted. Continental breakfast was plentiful and well laid out(cereal, juice, fruit, crumpets, bagels, scones, jam, tea and coffee. The 2 hot tubs were fun to use after dark ,Lay back and gaze at the stars whilst enjoying the peace and quiet, well maintained and very hot ( shame about the cold dash back to room!) Basic but functional laundry. Excellent location. Ample parking. Bus stops right outside. Close to 17 mile drive, Asilomar beach, point Lobos, carmel pacific Grove and cannery row.
17th street diner is a great place for a hearty meal on a budget whilst staying here.
Overall pacific garden inn is a Great place, good food, friendly and welcoming in an idealic setting. A little bit dated and noisey water system but full of charm and great value for money. would stay here over and over and recommend to family and friends.
