“Home from home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

We were made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped over the threshold. The house is beautifully decorated and in keeping with the period. Breakfasts were delicious and varied, as well as being healthy and freshly made. We particularly appreciated the wine and cheese in the afternoons and also the cookies and hot drinks in the evening, especially since the weather was quite chilly and rainy. We had a lovely suite and found the log (gas) fires in both the sitting room and bedroom very cosy and attractive. The service was excellent and Christine - the inn-keeper, very helpful and friendly. We would recommend this place to all our friends and hope to stay there again one day.

“Wonderful stay - perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

Had a terrific two nights at this bed and breakfast. Housed in two historic houses in beautiful Pacific Grove, just blocks from downtown. My 4 sisters and I had a king suite and a queen room to fit the 5 of us. The rooms connected and we had most of the bottom floor of one of the houses. Each room had a gas fireplace (plus one in the sitting room of the King suite). There was a small refrigerator in the room, and heated bath towels in the morning. The full breakfasts were yummy - with make-your-own waffles, juices, yogurt, fruit, cereals, bread, bagels and english muffins. Plus Chrisine (the on-site manager) made hot egg dishes each morning too. There was coffee & tea available all day, and wine, cheese, crackers and other tasty items in the late afternoon. To top off the edibles, fresh baked cookies were available in the evening, as well as microwave popcorn. They did not have dvd players, but they have a large selection of vcr movies that can be used gratis. All the rooms are nicely done - would make a lovely romantic get-away, and also had rooms large enough to fit a family with children. We could hear the street traffic at night, but 4 of us live out in rural areas, so I think we were more sensitive to the noise than most other people would be.

We enjoyed all the shops downtown, a trip to see the monarch butterflies, and the tidepools at Asilomar. The Red House Cafe is really good! Has the best calamari ever!! Never even felt tempted to go down to Cannery Row, but it is only a few miles away if you want to go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We missed going out to the Lighthouse, as they are only open on Thursdays and the weekend.

Christine gave us a great deal on the rooms and even with all the taxes, etc, my sisters and I were able to have a special time together for less than $90 a piece.

“There is good and there is bad”

Good- The inn is in a beautiful, grand historic home, which is carefully maintained. It is convenionetly located to allow walking to shops, restaurants, parks and the Monterey Bay. Enjoyed the continental breakfast, which added a made to order egg dish, and waffles. Coffee, tea, cold water available around the clock. Wine & cheese in Pm, cookies after dinner, Comfortable living room/breakfast seating. Suite had a sunny sitting room with TV/fireplace.
Bad: the sink was next to the bed, with a tiny bathroom. Most of the other rooms have nice baths, so dont get the one above the lobby. Police/fire across the street.

“Quaint Victorian inn, perfect location - I'll definitely be returning”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2011

The inn is beautiful with really wonderful architecture and decor (loved all the historical photos), the location is perfect, and the price was great (especially during the off season). We stayed in one of the queen suites on the ground floor.

Pros:
-Includes breakfast (it was delicious) + cookies + cheese and wine + endless cocoa and tea
-Staff were nice
-Microwave in lobby/dining room area + small refrigerator in room
-Lots of movies to choose from that you can watch in your room at night (+popcorn) after a long day of hiking
-Cable + wireless internet
-Love love LOVE the Victorian architecture and beautiful interior -- the dining room is so gorgeous and filled with sunlight in the morning
-Decent insulation; we were right by the street on ground level but didn't hear any road noise
-No bedbugs - yes, we checked :)
-Location (close to beaches, hiking, cute downtown area, aquarium, and Carmel -- not near any sleazy strip malls or on valuable wildlife habitat [don't stay in any of those places "on the dunes"])

Cons:
-Extremely worn out sheets -- they were clean, but were SO worn that they were transparent and had holes; they *really* need to replace those sheets
-Some stains on the towels (little red ones) -- they were clean, but the staff should consider using bleach on the towels just for appearance's sake
-The cookies that were fresh baked were pretty gross (it was a mixture of fresh baked and package cookies) -- time for a new chocolate chip cookie recipe!
-There were 2 kids in the inn who ate breakfast very early in the morning and were extremely loud (they woke us up both mornings), but there isn't much one can do about that so I wouldn't blame the inn

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning.

“Absolutely marvelous inn, you must stay here it is a great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2010

The staff was friendly. The wine and cheese hour marvelous. Hot, fresh cookies at night. The inn is beautiful with a large dining room and sitting room downstairs. My bedroom had a beautiful view from the second floor. The room was spacious and well appointed with a refrigerator, closet and lovely bathroom. There was a basket of toiletries in the bathroom. The breakfast was fantastic. The staff even cooked us eggs with mushrooms. I made my own waffle and enjoyed hot, delicious coffee and assorted other treats.Stay here for comfort, nice surroundings, convenience being close to Carmel and Monterey. I highly recommend this place.
