I stayed at the Bide-a-Wee Inn and got bit all over by something. Another girl in our group (in a different room) also got bit. The mattresses showed no signs of bedbugs. The motel is pet-friendly and it may have been fleas. I spoke to the lady at the desk and she said she'd put a flea bomb in the room after we left. However, these bites remind me of bedbug bites I got once (at a different hotel) years ago. Bedbugs can live in carpets, furniture, curtains, and behind pictures or wallpaper, so I am not ruling them out. Bedbugs are hard to kill and probably would not be affected by a flea bomb.
Other than the bites, I would give this hotel a very good review. The bedrooms in the cottage were very small but the price was reasonable. There was a kitchenette, the rooms were clean (if minimally furnished), and the continental breakfast was nice. It also has a great location. It's a short walk to beach and tidepools, a slightly longer walk to the monarch butterfly trees or to downtown Pacific Grove. The people at the front desk are helpful and accommodating.
