This is a nice inn, just out of Montery. Therefor cheaper, but restaurants are in walking distance. Rooms are ok, got all the amenities you'll need. Perfect for a night over, if you're traveling further the next morning.

Debated for a while between 3 and 4 stars. Good location, friendly staff. Room clean, unique vacation-theme decoration, tiled bathroom, energy-saving light bulbs throughout. Caters to families with children, less to business travel. Room with microwave and fridge, slight slope in floor. Antitheft coathangers. Walls on the thin side, but amazingly quiet night, good rest, and comfortable (firm) king bed. Breakfast had orange juice, oranges&apples, no bananas, 2 cereals, toast, waffles, styrofoam and plastic. Rooms equipped with porcelaine cups and real water glasses. Rate posted on door was "from $89 to $399". Can be recommended.

First thing we noticed when we walked into the room was that the bed was higher at the foot than at the head. When we mentioned this to the manager, she told us it would be fixed or they would move us to another room. When we returned the bed looked level until you sat on it. Then it bowed in the middle and was still not level. When we mentioned this again she became very rude and denied there was a problem. After much hassle we were moved to another room. It was very comfortable. Rooms were very clean and updated. Refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hairdryer, etc. We would recomend that you check the bed out completely before renting.

They have managed to upgrade the property where it counts : good plumbing, energy efficient lighting, new microwave and refrigerator, High Definition TV with 300 channels, Wi-fi that works, painting and adding wallpaper crown borders (in our room) , new doors and windows, and excellent locks . At the same time, they have kept the quaintness of a hotel built in the 1940's.

This is not a "cookie-cutter" lodging. The bedspread in our room had huge parrot tulips on it, and the wallpaper border was of some type of pink flowers. On top of the wardrobe, there was a vase of red silk flowers. It was like staying in the guest room in a friend's home.

Paying attention to ecology, the usual plastic-throw away cups were missing. They provided glasses and real glass tea cups . Again, they had energy efficient lights and motion activated lighting.

I felt secure and safe with the excellent locks on the windows and the door locks which were activated by the room key -card .

The property is attractive, and a gardener keeps the grounds neat and tends to window boxes and hanging baskets. By the way, Ridge Road, the entry to the Monarch Butterfly Groves, is right across the street.

The breakfast is set up in the lobby, and there is not room for a crowd to eat there, but there are chairs and tables under a covered area next to the office where patrons may eat and enjoy the weather. There was milk, coffee, juice, cereals, apples and oranges, as well as cereals, toast, and an assortment of rolls and bagels.

We definitely plan to return to Wilkie's Inn.
