“Best in Class”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I always enjoy staying at Embassy Suites hotels. With the large guest rooms, separate living room area, free breakfast and complementary happy hour, what's not to like. However, the Mandalay Beach Embassy Suites is Best in Class. I have stayed in this hotel off and on for 15 years and the staff never fails to please. The lobby is an artistic masterpiece, reminiscent of the old Spanish Missions of the 19th century. With a beautiful beachfront setting, this hotel is more a resort than a hotel. It is simply the best Embassy Suites I have ever experienced. Most of the rooms have a view of the ocean, but even the courtyard rooms have a view of magnificent flora and waterfalls. There are bike and other rentals available to enjoy the beachfront atmosphere and the breakfast and happy hour offerings are some of the best I have ever experienced. This is a MUST DO when staying in the Oxnard/Port Hueneme area!

“Good Loacation, overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I wanted to get a way for a romantic getaway and had a hard time at this place. We reserved a "beach front" room, but it was more of a dune front room. We couldnt even see the ocean over the dunes. There are (I thinK) 5 buildings on the beach front. The center one truly looks out to the beach, but then the buildings on either side are angled back and dont face the ocean, well they do, but a series of dunes are in front of it.

So with that, the front desk was very nice in accommodating our request for a higher floor so we could actually see the ocean. I had preferred the rooms to step out on being on the beach, but given only 1 building truly had that, those rooms were full. When I asked if the difference would be refunded, they said the upper rooms were actually more expensive, but they would take care of that for us. I guess they know that the "beach front" isnt all its cracked up to be.

The property itself was beautiful, however, some of the fountains werent working and there was litter everywhere. For our 2 day stay, we observed a baby diaper and other trash on the roof adjacent to the walkway (on the 4th floor) for our entire stay. Pretty disgusting for a place that wants to be called a resort. I also noticed sugar packs next to doors from room service that werent picked up all weekend, as I saw maids on the floor all day both day. Makes me wonder about how clean our room really was.

The restaurant on-site was just ok. A little pricey for quality, but nothing to get freaked out about. I just wish they could bring the rest of the "resort" up to the standards of the entrance/lobby. It was beautiful.

I also appreciate that they have security walking around, but he was kinda rude. We had been lying around the pools for hours and he came up and demanded our room keys. We said, youre asking us now, weve been out here all day, he replied, so had he (although we hadnt seen him. Annoyed, I asked why all the other peole around us werent being asked and he said hed seen them all day. I guess it was because we werent old and fat. Rude though.

If they are going to allow pool side drinks, I would like to have seen a walk up window to the bar instead of having to put all your clothes on to go to the inside bar, but whatever.

I dont know...at almost $300 a night, it just didnt seem worth it to me. I can pay that at smaller places up and down the coast that offer more. My gf really wanted to try this place and even she was disappointed. I would have left 2 stars, but she wont let me, so I am going 3.

I will say the front desk and valet were very friendly, but didnt really know much about the area or have any suggestions for places to try in the surrounding area.

Oh, and go ahead and get a message. They were pretty good, although the location made it hard for me to completely realx as you could hear people yelling, slamming doors, etc.

Room Tip: Ask for the center building for beach front, if not available, go to a higher room (top floor) facin...

“Beach Front!”

If you want to be on the beach, this is the hotel for you! Our views of the ocean were amazing and we were upgraded when checking in, which was nice. The rooms were huge with a seperate bedroom (as most Embassy properties). The rooms are a bit out dated and happy to see it's being renovated, but very comfortable and enjoyable visit. We stayed here for our Anniversary in May of 2011. Our room was on the very outside of the complex farthest from check-in, on the highest floor. It was a long walk, but our location was very quiet. Breakfast and reception in the evening were the standard and very adaquate Embassy quality. Parking is $15 per day and you don't have the option to park elsewhere, but it is in a covered multi-level garage which has security to enter and leave. Grounds are beautiful with waterfalls in different areas. Pool was clean; enjoyed the sunshine and people watching. Yes we'll return!

“REFURBISHED ROOMS!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I have stayed at this hotel before and was happy to see that they are starting to refurbish rooms which was well needed. Makes a big difference!
The only complaint I have from my visit was the noisy hallway where my room was located. I was located in Bldg. 3 on the ground floor facing the ocean. Which was awesome! But the hallway is a narrow corridor with Mexican tile and everything echo's loudly and you can definitly hear it in your room. From people walking, suitcases rolling door closing etc. Luckily the bedroom is blocked by the bathroom that is closer to the hallway but didn't help much.
The breakfast and managers special are standard for Embassy Suites. Once again hopefully this room will be refurbished soon as well as it is dated and worn.
The grounds around this hotel and beach area are just beautiful! A great location to do many things or just relax.
Parking is $15 a day for self park. Also I experienced very bad cell service here, my carrier is Verizon. Had to walk out of the room sometimes and still lost calls. I noticed other people doing the same thing.

Room Tip: A top floor if you don't mind not having beach access from your room.
