“Hostile Staff at this Ho Jo”

I was so looking forward to staying here since I always read about Ho Jo's when I was growing up.

So my husband asks for a handicapped room for me ~ gets all checked and and we go to the room. The air doesn't work and we have to have some sort of air. So the check in guy "Mit" tells us that the only other room available was right upstairs. REALLY?? It's Tuesday, there's 3 cars in the WHOLE FRIGGIN' lot and there's only ONE other room we can have and it's upstairs?? REALLY? Yes really! I couldn't believe it. Without boring you with details we were stuck at this place.

Now ~ we had asked for an hour later checkout at 12pm.....not a problem according to "Mit"....only it was. We got a call at 9am telling us checkout was at 11. I advised the person we asked for and were granted a late checkout at 12 ~ I was told if I paid $39 I could stay the extra hour ~~~ WHAAAAAT? First of all I have NEVER in my whole hotel/motel staying experiences have I EVER been called two hours before checkout to tell what time I needed to check out. Secondly, it's in writing on our reciept that we could check out at 12! I asked for their corporate number and the "manager" "John" told me to get it off the internet and then HUNG UP ON ME! So I called corporate and got a case going regarding this horrid stay. I also am filing a complaint for discrimination against handicapped persons. There was no reason to put us on the second floor when it was VERY obvious the motel was empty!

Room Tip: Just go to one of the billion motels located in the area ~ skip this one!

As the General Manager of the Howard Johnson Orange, I would like to first state that we are in the hospitality industry and it s our job to provide the service that guest needs. When advance reservations are made, certain room types may be guaranteed, as to any requests such as ground floor or near the office or simple things like room next to each other. We provide every effort to try and meet these request and we have done, when reservations are made in advance.
However, in such cases when guests just show up without a prior reservation made, we try to do our best in providing the room type and a rate you agree on. In this particular case, when you showed up within minutes after calling does not give us time or reserve a particular room request. There was absolute no mention that you needed a Handicap room upon this walk-in check -in. In-fact, the room was given was a coupon rate and a “walk-in” rate. A King Non-smoking was given on the ground floor close to the office. Unfortunately, this room was not satisfying to you because not the fact that Air Conditioning Unit was not working but it just had to be adjusted to settings.
The desk clerk on duty was courteous and offered another room but the only rooms available on ground floor were rooms with two beds plus this would be at an extra fee. These rooms are not offered with the coupon rate. It was because of this extra room cost, you opted and willingly took the room on the 2nd floor. No guest has ever been forced to stay at the hotel if not satisfied. Unfortunately, in the morning we do apologize, if the clerk on duty had called you early to remind you of the check-out time, and we completely understand that is not our procedure at the hotel, it was more like an isolated situation and once again, we apologize for this. There may be a possible reason for quoting a higher rate; perhaps it was mention or miscommunication in the fact that you wanted to stay extra for multiple hours.
In any case, we strive for customer satisfaction. We at Howard Johnson deeply regret any inconvenience you may have experienced in trying to get the phone numbers and responses. We once again apologize for the inconvenience and we can assure you that the situation has been rectified and the staff has been advised and reprimanded. We hope this will not deter you from choosing Howard Johnson in the future.

“Good for the price I paid”

Stayed here for one night last Thursday.
I booked a room with single King bed and was not disappointed. Although the room is not in pristine condition (Tears on the couch, carpet not in the best shape) It was fairly clean, the restroom was clean, very spacious. TV, Fridge, AC, Coffee Maker and Microwave worked even though they look quite old.
The front desk staff needs to work a bit on their customer service and friendliness though. I felt I was inconveniencing them when I called and asked questions bout the facility.
I'd stay here again because of the location and price.

“Stay away!!!! Found bugs and cockroaches within 10 minutes of entering!”

We booked this room through hotels.com. We booked a room with a king bed, entered the room and found a queen. Within 10 minutes my wife spotted a few creepy crawlers, then I started looking around and found cockroaches. We tried to get a refund but ended up in a cat and mouse game between the hotel and hotels.com. Awful experience. We were pretty much forced into staying here, unless we stayed elsewhere and lose the $65...if you love your family, girlfriend, inlaws....don't come here.

Thank you for taking the time to write your TripAdvisor review. We appreciate the constructive comments about our shortcomings. We hope you will accept our sincere apologies for the lack of service or product you experienced during your stay with us. There is never an excuse for poor service and we appreciate your letting us know.

All of our rooms are newly renovated rooms. At the end of June 2010, they received new carpet, all new mattresses, sheets & bedspreads as per our franchisee requirement. After your comment about the possible sighting of roaches & crawler bugs, we called our Pest Control company immediately. This room was put out of service, as this is something that we take very seriously. After a thorough investigation, they concluded that there were no roaches or any other insects present and the room was opened back up for occupancy the next day. As of today, we have had no reports of any insects.

We are terribly sorry that your family had poor experience in our hotel. However, I can assure you that there were No roaches & crawlers present at all and there are no bugs or insects in our hotel.

We look forward to your visit again.

The place is good, the rooms are good, good bed, got refridigor and coffe machine and tv.
there is a parking for free for 1 car. its very good motel
