“Nice resort for families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Our small family (two adults and a 10-year old) stayed just before Christmas 2011 for a few days. The resort is pleasant and comfortable, with an emphasis on kids activities. There are arts and crafts (cookie decorating) and kids game room activities, a small video arcade room, a small ice rink (with metal frames to help kids who have never skated), sleds and x-country ski equipment for rent on premises. At nights, they had a make-your-own s'mores on one of the decks at night. (Fun, but very cold!) There is also a pool and 3 hot tubs (one is for adults only). This is a resort; therefore, there are also a number of stores to pick up items you've forgotten/clothes and a cute toy store.

The rooms are large, pleasant, very well-equipped. We had a small refrigerator, dishwasher, sink, counter space with a toaster, and microwave, plus plates, cups, bowls, silverware, pots and pans and utensils. Great for a family if you would like to cook or eat a meal in your room.

Our room had a dining area, and a gas fireplace. The beds, including the foldout couch were comfortable. (That's saying a lot when it comes to foldout! And the master bed was very comfortable) and our room was mostly quiet. Sometimes folks (especially kids) yell in the hallways, but that's not the resort's fault. Staff is courteous and very helpful.

The one downside was the restaurants. They're expensive and, in our opinion, the food offerings were limited. While the food quality was good, it lacked imagination, was tasteless and dry. But there are some very good restaurants in the area. We would recommend breakfast (or any meal ) at PlumpJack instead. There are some excellent restaurants in Truckee.

Oh, and if it's winter, and the ice rink is too small for you, try the Truckee Recreation center ice rink. $6 per person for skating including skate rentals AND the skating crowd was friendly and low-key when we were there. Hot cocoa and cups of soup available for purchase. Rental skates are your typical uncomfortable ones, but the rink very pleasant and open after sundown.

“Great setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I stay here twice a year for work and they are a very accommodating resort. Rooms are very nice, grounds are beautiful. Ask for a humidifier in your room as it is dry.

“Great resort for families but not for couples”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

I would rate this resort a "five" for all the amenities and conveniences covered by the other reviewers. It drops to a 3 however for its one dimensional focus on families. While I love the kids, my wife and I needed a relaxing couples getaway at a nice resort. Unfortunately, we didn't find it here. During the 4 days we were there in December '11, the resort was overrun by many large families. Kids were noisy and running around the lounge areas in the lobby, up and down the hotel hallways, and even cannon balling into the jacuzzis. The vibe was definitely "Disney resort".

Thank you for your review of Resort at Squaw Creek. We wanted to reply to your comment that the resort is good for families, but not couples. While the resort is an excellent destination for families traveling to Lake Tahoe, it is a great place for couples too. However, the key is timing. During the December Christmas period, with our annual Magical Memories holiday celebration taking place, the resort is very full with families. Summer periods and holidays attract many families as well. But if you choose non-holiday weekday or weekend periods, the resort is a bit more "adult" in nature, and perfect for that romantic escape. We hope to see you again during a quiter period.
