Let me start by saying that I am still blown away at how expensive it is to go skiing for a day/weekend. I am just amazed whenever I see families of 4-5 skiing for multiple days. With that said, I still love getting up to Tahoe to ski a handful of times. I usually always end up at Alpine Meadows. It is only a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive from the East Bay and the resort never seems as crowded as Northstar or Squaw. You can also get discounted discounts at various bay area outlet such as Sports Basement. The resort is large, the runs are long and they have excellent food. I am also a skier and although I usually always go up with friends that are snow boarding, I enjoy the crowds at Alpine. I don't feel overwhelmed with out of control snowboarders like I do at other resorts. For the price, the size of the mountain and the crowd size, you can't beat Alpine Meadows.
