“Don't be fooled”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

I needed a place to stay for an extended period and a kitchenette was ideal. This hotel is situated right out the front gate of Camp Pendleton so the location was good for us. However, the free continental breakfast and VCR rental advertised on the building was false. The rooms are old and falling apart. We had to relight the pilot light on the stove every night. The night time staff were unhelpful and the cleaning crew did not speak any English. Since we got a kitchenette, we did not get maid service everyday and had to take our own trash out. No pots, pans or dishes were provided. The manager was very short with us, but did barter for the price of the room. The bathroom sink is one step away from falling off the wall. I will never stay here again and now would have paid the same price for a room without a kitchenette to have something clean.

“Nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2009

Having stayed in some low priced motels in the San Diego area I have to say the Motel 9 Oceanside is a very nice place. It is similar to the ones in San Diego as far as cost but that is where it stops. I found the room I stayed in very clean and had a new bathroom that was very clean and had some elbow room.
Having a small fridge and a microwave/coffee machine is nice as well for late night snacks etc...
The room was big enough and had a lot of closet space. The bed was ok, not the best but not too bad either. The manager is a nice guy and was very helpful. It is not the Hyatt but for a short stay it is very good value for the price. Also a good location, as the town, beach and the freeway is right close. Overall i give a thumbs up for this motel.

“Overlook Motel. What a mistake..”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2009

Booked a room at this motel out of frustration, heading to San Diego from LA and being too tired to drive. Didn't ask for a room to see. What a mistake. But, again, i was really tired and just wanted to crush someplace. I started to fear for the worst almost immediately, when i realized the guy wasn't even going to ask for a mere deposit for paying cash up front. He even dared to mutter a "very nice room".
First thing that hit me, the smell. Like a big bowl of dust in your mouth. .No kidding. Second, the ceiling was so short i could almost touch it, standing on my feet. And the bed was higher than average! Deadly combination. The rest was as bad. The shower went rusty probably in the 40's, the rest accordingly. Bed sheets had cigarette burns and yellow stains. Another thing that irked me a lot, was that 2 out of 3 locks on the door where broken. Frightly enough. I slept, eyes open. Looking at the other reviews i consider myself lucky not to have meet bedbugs and roaches. Definitely a possibility in that pit. Don't waste your time and money here. Consider i had let down a room with ocean view in Laguna Beach for just 15 bucks more than this. Dont' get fooled!

“Absolutly the worse..... stay away!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2009

My wife and I found this Motel through the internet and booked two rooms for July 3rd - 4th for the holiday. The cost was $136.00 per night per room. Let me start with upon entering the rooms they smelled really bad. We figured we would make the best of the situation and basically shrugged the smell off by opening windows and going to the local store to purchase Fabreez. We Fabreezed the linen and carpet then left the room going to the beach. Upon our arrival back (1:00 the next morning) the room smelled no better.

We then began to take better notice of the room and found the following issues:
•While we’re at the beach someone came into our room and stole the Fabreeze. It was also obvious someone went through our luggage.
•No toilet paper
•The towels (if you want to call them that) were really thin and felt like sand paper
•The soap was the cheapest anyone could buy
•I attempted to open a drawer to place my clothing and the drawer fell apart
•We looked under the bed and found all sorts of trash including crumbled up toilet paper with blood
•Trash in the closet
•I pulled back the bed spread to find blood stains on the linen
•The mirror in the rest room was damaged and falling apart
•The shower was nasty and very mildewed
•Large cock roaches were in the kitchen cabinets and climbing the walls when we first turned on the lights
•The TV didn’t work
I can’t even put in words the discuss we felt. I have been to 3rd world countries and have had better accommodations. It is sad to think that in America we can have such establishments doing business in this fasion and getting away with it. It is very clear from reading past reviews that this is the normal conditions in which this establishment has been operating under for several years. I too had a difficult time with management when these issues were brought to his attention. Management basically shrugged our complaints off and after much persistence agreed to refund one night since we made it very clear we would not be staying for the second day/evening. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

First off there was a huge blood stain yes I said blood stain in our shower, so we requested a new room. They gave us one no problem; well with a little problem because the desk clerk no understand engrish! After that my wife and I went to Universal studios, she left her purse under a pillow because I had our credit cards and ID's. When we got back we found her purse missing, we asked if they had found it, they siad no. we locked the room and noone could have had access to it but the Maids so beware of leaving things in your room if you do chose to stay. As a side note we did report it to the management they could have cared less, neither did the Oceanside PD just stay away from Oceanside PERIOD!!!
