“Rooms for short stays”

My GF and I had a little meet here for some afternoon fun and we found it was okay for a few hours as long as your not spending the night.

The rooms aare old and some stuff doesn't work like others posted said and the desk clerk is a jerk. The office smells like a cheap Chinese eatery and the clerk is rude and barley intelligible. The clientele seem to mind their own business and it was quiet for our brief stay.

I wouldn't recommend it for a family trip, or for seniors because we made sure we left before dark ourselves because the place looks like it could be a real nightmare in the dark hours.

  • Liked — Nobody bothered us
  • Disliked — The desk clerk was an asshole

“Warning, do not stay here”

This was advertised as a one-star motel on Priceline. We did not expect much, but we do not think it deserves even one star.
What was wrong: difficult communication; English was limited, but the manager could speak well enough to check us in & answer some questions.
Safety issues: a support pole for one of the stair landings had been run into by a car, & did not look like it was safely supporting the landing. There was a police chase through the parking lot.
Repair issues: leak under bathroom sink; looked like it had been there a while & had caused some damage (when owner told of this, did not appear to be concerned), drawers under TV difficult to pull open & use, refridgerator ground prong on plug missing, leak on shower head, & TV did not work. Also, heater outside air vent "latch" broken. Small holes in sheets, bedspreads & drapes. Floor very creaky.
Cleanliness: Dried grease & piece of pizza in bottom drawer of TV cabinet; verbal & 2 written requests to clean out drawers were not honored, other shelves & drawers not fully cleaned, lots of mildew on windows in bathroom & bedroom, closet very musty smelling (& no hangers). Old paint drips on heater/air conditioner unit.
No internet as advertised.
What was ok: clean sheets, bedspread & towels (mattress pads too small). Decent pillows. Plenty of hot water; cold water tasted good to drink. Door deadbolt lock worked (difficult to close door from the outside). Room was quiet; view of end of Lake Merrit. It was a non-smoking room & did not smell of smoke (although there was an ashtray on the closet shelf).

  • Liked — Convenient location for our needs.
  • Disliked — Safety & cleanliness concerns.

“Run, Run Fast”

We recently moved our daughter up near UC Berkeley and needed to find a hotel near Lake Merritt. This was the closest one near her home and we didnt expect the Hilton for 55 bucks a night, but what we got was FAR WORSE than ever expected!
The desk clerk said each room had a mini fridge and air conditioner. WRONG We were switched 3 rooms and each one had a non working fridge, and the smell was foul. The room which we were stuck on didnt even have a shower door. The toilet seat, not the cover, the actual seat was cracked in half. And the lamps on the bedside table, lets just say only one worked and the other side of the bed had one, but no plug to plug in??? We even pulled the bed out away from wall and nothing!
We slept there one night and about 5 am there was a gunshot outside the hotel. That was my breaking point.
We checked out and asked for a refund on the unused night, only to have the clerk PRETEND not to speak english! And I say pretend because this was the same man who we checked in with the day prior and talked too 3 times about the fridge's not working.
Like I said I didnt expect too much for 55 bucks a night, but avoid this place for your own safety!
