“Rustic Charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2011

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent two night stay here. The accommodations and decor throughout the place - from the rooms, to the lobby, to the restaurant - all helped capture the dramatic setting of Yosemite, of which access to was so convenient.
Our dinners in the Branding Iron Saloon were extremely enjoyable. And afterwards, being able to sit in the lobby by a roaring fire just continued to add to the overall feel and setting.

“Cat Lovers and Smokers' Delight!”

My husband and I both feel strongly, that to have a good experience at a hotel, it must be clean, comfortable, and staff kind and accommodating.
The staff was, in fact, very kind, but sadly that is where the goodness all ends. Being that they are so nice, makes it harder to come on here and be honest about what our stay really was like, however, the truth ought to be known for unsuspecting first-timers as we were.
Place was dirty. Rooms dirty.
If cats, cigarettes, and ghosts are your thing, maybe you would like it, however, I am allergic to cats and cigarettes and my dh to cats. Within 5 or so minutes of being in room, our eyes started to itch from cats. It was quite apparent that cats had been in room. Upon walking in to front desk area when first arriving, we immediately spotted 5 cats, all indoors. Sorry you cat lovers, but to us, it was disgusting. We wish now that we'd left at that point, but didn't.

Room was set up so tightly that only one of us could move around at a time. When opening armoire to get to refrigerator, door only opened halfway, therefore, frig door only opened about halfway. Incredibly awkward and frustrating to get things in and out.

Towels were dark brown and creme-color. Might seem like a nice color combo. But, honestly, think about it. If they are not using white, then they are NOT using bleach which means that germs from past guests still remain. Nasty!

The curtain rod was a closet dowel, curtains dingy. There were several unpatched holes in wall where they'd obviously moved some things. Look behind any piece of furniture and was very dirty. Guess they don't move furniture when vacuuming. The base of dining table in room was covered in dust. Both room and bathroom were tiny, meagerly (unpractical in some cases) furnished and dirty behind furniture, etc.
Just a place we were not comfortable going barefoot in.
Any of these things all by themselves might not have been that big of a deal, however, you put it all together and it was just not a pleasant place for us to be.
Overall, dirty and inefficiently furnished and set up.
Lastly, we heard after having checked in that this place is very well known for being haunted. We had no idea. Though it didn't frighten us, I will say that hearing other guests talk in the halls about ghost activity in Room# ? wasn't what we'd call a nice atmosphere for a weekend away.

“24 hours here felt like a week's vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2010

Met up with girlfriends here (all in our late 40s) for just one night and fully enjoyed the historic atmosphere, comfortable sleeping and community spaces, and restaurant. I travel for work to DC, LA, SF, Las Vegas, etc., usually staying in business-oriented hotels. This is a unique resort, and it offers true respite. The welcoming staff sets a calm tone of service without intrusion, and the many outside spaces with views of mature landscaping offer seating for reading, conversation, or just relaxation to refresh the spirit. The large and varied indoor gathering areas are numerous enough to allow multiple groups to meet without interfering with each other. A self-serve espresso/latte machine was a real treat - available any time of day for no cost. While this trip was about hanging out with friends, I can easily imagine returning to take advantage of the access to Yosemite.

“Great time with good food in a beautiful, peaceful setting.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

The staff was helpful and friendly. The grounds are beautiful. Rooms are small, but very comfortable. There are lots of nice places to sit and enjoy the quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant is excellent! I will be coming back and recommending the Ranch to everyone I know.

“Authentic ranch feel, friendly helpful staff, great restaurant, comfy rooms.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

The staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgable! Even when we wanted to go thrift store shopping they were able to point us in the right direction. And when you can make 9 women comfortable, relaxed and at home you've accomplished a lot!
French doors off of each room opened up to a "veranda" of sorts, where we sat chatting and snacking, sat by the pool (it was too cool to swim) more chatting and snacking! After dinner in the restaurant (twice baked potatoes were the talk of the table) the staff lit us a fire in the "great room" where we spent hours just relaxing. I would definately recommend this for a relaxing time.
