We stayed here on a trip to San Francisco- we had a late appointment in Novato and were going to spend the rest of the weekend in SF. We got in late, but the service was very friendly and helpful, and we got a free upgrade to a much nicer room! When you drive up, it looks a little sketchy, with all the neon lights and lack of clear signs as to where the office is, but the rooms themselves are spotless and the exterior is very nice in the daylight. Parking may be difficult, and we had a little trouble finding our room in the dark, but those were our only and minor issues. The amenities are about what you'd expect from a hotel in this price range, but everything was very nice! Would definitely return if we had reason to.

We were booked at the Skylark for a few days while doing business in Marin County. It appears to be a no-frills motel court, but our 'executive' room was extremely comfortable with a full kitchen and a small balcony that overlooked both the hills (watched a family of deer one morning) and the water. We experienced a minor electrical problem which the management fixed immediately and graciously. The very best part of our stay, however, was the attached cafe, Sam's Roadhouse, which could have been right out of a sweeter and simpler time. The staff would sit down and have a conversation with you--they would remember your name and your breakfast order. If you stop by, make sure to say hello to Kim, the world's most adorable waitress--she will tell you about her favorite music (Abba) and maybe even dance a few steps while waiting for your eggs to cook! Great home cooking, too. A great stay with some really nice folks!!!!
