“Thank you for your excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

The Gold Country Chapter and the USS Constitution Chapter of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association (NERA) hosted the 54th National NERA Conference at Lions Gate Hotel, September 27 thru October 2, 2011. I am the President of one of those Chapters and I have been attending NERA national conferences for more than 20 years. This is the first time that I did not hear any negative comment(s) from the delegates regarding the kind of service they received from their hotel. Lions Gate's customer service was BEYOND EXPECTATION! Our Chapter has sponsored/hosted several military related events (such as Navy Balls, etc.) there, and we have never been disappointed. In addition to making sure that the meeting rooms were ready, the hotel Staff was very sensitive to the needs of the disabled Veterans who happened to be among the delegates.

The Sacramento Council of the Navy League (of which I am a life member) holds its annual Sea Services luncheon at Lions Gate Hotel. The goal of that luncheon is to express appreciation for the service of the Marines, the Sailors, the Coast Guards, and Merchant Marines, to our country. That Council, in my opinion, is very pleased with Lions Gate customer service., it has been holding that event at Lions Gate for many, many years.

From personal experience, everyone working at Lions Gate, from the Managing Staff to its food handlers, is customer focused. I take pride in saying that they provide their customers "service from the heart."

“Best st youaff and location around”

After 14 months of planning my daughters wedding we had a fantastic day with the help of the wonderful staff of Lions Gate Hotel. Through the entire process everyone was helpful in making sure that they knew exactly what she wanted her day to be. We used the Generals House which was wondeful and beautiful garden area. We had many wedding guest including ourselves that spent several nights in the hotel. The rooms were very nice and the breakfast was wonderful for the free price. We were more then satisifed with the entire event, and would recommend the hotel and the facility for any event that you are planning.

“Nice for the price.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011 via mobile

The room we stayed in was quite large. The furnishings were older but still nice. It was quiet and the continental breakfast was very nice in the mornings. My only complaints were that the toilet was very loud so I could hear when the person in the next room flushed and the door to our room had a weather strip that was shot so leaves and cold air blew in constantly. Also it was impossible to keep the room at a stable temperature. The temperature control was full blast hot or nothing at all. All together though for the price I would stay here again.

“Lions Gate - Sacramento”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

We stayed here over Thanksgiving weekend 2011. Overall we were unimpressed by the 'hotel'. It's hard to call this a hotel though honestly. It is interesting to be staying at an old airbase's living quarters. You can feel the oldness though in the rooms. The rooms feel like apartments/ living quarters.

Ours was a 1-bed king, suite. It had a small living room, with a little wetbar area (sink) and a fridge. Having a fridge is nice since you can stock it up with drinks and not buy from the vending machine. The rooms themselves were very good sized.

The staff was generally nice and courteous, no complaints. The free hot breakfast was decent; can't really complain about it since it's free. The grounds were beautiful, lined with big trees and the leaves changing colors. However, I would not venture off the grounds, or go walking around at night. The area around the Lions Gate grounds is very shady, with lots of homeless people.

The bed was hard. I generally like a firm bed, but this one was almost too hard to sleep on. The suite's living room area had a pull-out bed, but we didn't try it. The toilet was industrial in that it didn't have a seat lid on it, just the U to sit on. So you couldn't put your clothes on top of it; we thought that was weird. The shower was surprisingly pretty good. Good pressure/ good hot water. Big bathroom in terms of space.

Overall it wasn't dirty, but we never felt like it was super-clean. If you're expecting a new cookie-cutter hotel, this is not the place for you. The room that we got was not nearly as nice as the ones in the website's pictures. It just felt dated all-around. But I guess for the money, it's ok. I probably would not stay there again.
