Although Clear Lake is not 'clear', it's shallow and the north end of the lake is full of reeds and grasses....perefect for fishing! The southern end of the lake is more for water skiing and other water sports. In my teens I spent many weekends and summers there. It has since grown in population with more summer homes and retirement areas. What HAS changed is the increasing number of small, quality wineries around the lake......overflowing from the better known counties for wine......Napa, Sonoma and Medocino. Clear Lake is a recreational lake for families and sportsmen. There are small populated areas all around the lake with the largest for shopping and services in nearby Lakeport or in the city of Clearlake. The is NOT a place for someone who wants to shop at fancy boutiques, upscale restaurants and antique shops. This is not Palm Springs, Vail, CO., or Las Vegas, NV. This is more of a sportsman's paradise and very family friendly.
This property is wonderful......facing the lake, nice pool and spa, workout room, quiet.........if you want to avoid boats and watercraft in the parking lot, try coming off seaon and not during the summer months.
We thoroughly enjoyed this property and brought our boat, met nice people and a friendly, helpful staff......and had lots of fish to eat as well as share with others. We'll definitely be back! I suggest you do your research online prior to booking any property for a stay. Checkout surrrounding areas and make note of restaurants and places you want to visit. Those who claim the location is poor, is obviously not a sportsman! ~
