“good and practical hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I stayed there twice as I came with my husband while he was working
the pool area is nice, can get a bit busy but still nice
the rooms are clean and large enough
beds are comfy
its very close to Santa Ana (John Wayne airport) and there is a free shuttle to take you there, or to local malls, like South Coast Plaza or Fashion Island (both very good)
only issue was that they once "forgot" to pick me up from the mall, so I had to wait for ages so they could send someone to get me
The breakfast is nice but quite expensive. I did not try the spa as again it was too expensive.
Overall, good hotel, especially for business

“High-end conference hotel is a surprisingly friendly place, restaurant is terrific”

I've stayed at the Fairmont Newport Beach four times over the past three years during business trips to LA. It was chosen by the organizer of my conference, who's a stickler for service. The folks at reception have always been professional, regardless of the request, and I've never had to wait in line; as soon as they see you coming they will stop what they're doing to help you. Rooms are up-to-date and super clean, well-decorated, with marvelously comfortable beds. The gym is small but all the equipment is current and in good repair, and there's a lovely outdoor pool and jacuzzi. I tend to get homesick after a few days, but the Fairmont is so relaxing that I find myself looking forward to these trips. The restaurant is also superb for dinner. (Breakfast is pricey, but there's a Jamba Juice across the street, if you can cross without getting run over.) They hired a new manager about a year ago, but things seem to be running as smoothly as before. This is also a good choice for families vacationing in LA; though it's not on the beach, it's a short ride to the ocean and Disneyland, and you can do LA or San Diego as a day trip.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade to a 1-br suite, particularly if you'll be needing two beds. If a suite is a...

“Excellent Service and Overall Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This was the first time I have stayed at the Fairmont Newport Beach. I was greeted with the valet service with a smile and went immediately to the front desk where they were very professional and informative. The room was nicely decorated and the bed was great. The bar had a great wine selection and a good array of appetizers. They even had a happy hour from 4-7 on weekdays. Overall experience was very good. I would stay again.
