“TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE NEVER STAY HERE !!! BEWARE”

This was a family trip for us for a soccer tournament. I traveled with myself, my wife and my two sons 8 & 11 yrs old. We checked in late friday night to find what appeared to be VOMIT underneath the pillow of one of the beds. When I called the front desk the hotel rep did not come up to investigate because he was the ONLY one on staff. I waited 20 minute went downstairs and demanded a new room. I asked that NO ONE be allowed to enter the room until I could enter with the manager the next morning. The next morning I went down to speak with the manager who had already went in the room to tell me I must be mistaken because in his assessment there was absolutely nothing wrong with the room. I showed him the photos I took with my iPhone of the soiled linen, he pulled back the covers to show me there was NO LONGER any soils on the linen and insinuated that I had made it up. I asked him why did he enter the room with out me. It is my strong believe that he had house keeping clean the room before I came down to cover up on how dirty the linen was. Very very disappointing stay with them. I WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN. And sent an email to everyone from our soccer team to share my experience. The coach replied back and said he has a similar situation and his sheets smelled like Ben Gay and he was not wearing any. So two room with dirty linen in the same hotel on the same weekend. Worst part is the manager I spoke to was more concerned about what Corporate would say that to ask me what else he could do to make my stay more pleasant. If you DO decide to stay here, don't say you weren't' warned.

“The reason why this Courtyard is the least expensive in the area...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2010

is because there are thieves and it stinks. They warn you at check in about removing valuables from the car. I had picked up some Halloween eyeball decorations and put them on the dashboard and in the morning they were turned over. The car also smelled really badly of cigarettes. Since the room I was in also smelled of cigarettes I couldn't tell if it was just the stench on my clothes or in the car. I stopped to clean the car and noticed the eyeballs. It sort of seems like it might be an inside job since the guy at the front desk and the handyman were both standing out in front smoking. And stuff might be missing from my suitcase which also looked up-ended. Why else would a hotel which has this much of a problem not install security?

Otherwise it's a basic nice looking place which is next to a freeway and a smelly slough. Wireless didn't work in the room so I used the wired service. It is very invasive and left all kinds of stuff on my computer and changed some privacy settings.

A lot of the people who stay here are from other countries and stay long term. They cook in their rooms and the smell is pretty intense from that. Stay off the 4th floor because absolutely everything is covered with grease.

“At the low end of adequate: Unsupportive mattresses, no thermostat, free wired and wireless net”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2010

I suppose this Courtyard is typical of the brand, but the bedding was so much worse than nearby hotels' that I won't seek this place out again. The bed had a synthetic duvet and a mix of synthetic and feather pillows. The problem was the mattress, which reminded me of a $150 showroom special: my first thought was "it's just simple foam", but foam mattresses conform to the body better than soft innerspring mattresses like this do. Compare that to the Hyatt Place a little further south, which has down duvets, better mattresses, and a free breakfast, and it's clear who the winner is. And there's a W Hotel only one exit away which puts the Courtyard entirely to shame.

Other annoyances: only one power outlet at the desk, no calibrated thermostat, and no "auto" setting for the heating unit's fan, so you get to listen to it all night. And the staff were unwilling to offer a checkout later than 1pm on a quiet eekend, even for a Marriott Gold Elite member.

Good things: a monstrously big LCD TV, a decent fitness center (weight bench, one multi-function strength machine, and the usual cardio machines), and both wired and wireless Internet service in the rooms.

The "business center" consists of two kiosk PCs in the lobby, with free printing.

The laundry room has two washers ($2/cycle) and two dryers ($2/30 minutes).

There's an outdoor pool and whirlpool.

Location: the hotel is in a suburban shopping area with useful stuff in walking distance (e.g. a Chipotle on the corner), but they appear to have a problem with vandalism in the parking lot: there were warnings at the desk, and there was a guard in the parking lot. There is a Residence Inn next door.

“Passed my test”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2009

While I only need a hotel room to sleep and to wash-up, cleanliness also matters to me. Like all Courtyards by Marriott I have been to, this one passed my test. All the areas in the hotel that I have been to did not have the smell of disinfectants or air freshener that others use to mask the unpleasant smell in aging facilities. May not be so new, I think I have read somewhere that this was built in 2002, but they have at least upgraded the TV to a huge flat panel one.

I was in another Courtyard two weeks ago and I thought the cleaning person forgot to leave the small container of lotion and soap bar for the sink. Now I have found out it is standard in all Courtyards. They have eliminated these items so you have to carry that small bar of bath soap between the sink and the bath, wherever you need it. I understand, because of the economic situation, they have to do some cut back.

One other thing I noticed in this hotel brand is what I think the flawed design of the bathroom door and the clothes closet. When the bathroom door is swung open, it blocks access to the closet. In reverse, if you need to get or put something the closet, you have to shut the bathroom door.
