I travle a lot for work and all I require is a clean and safe room. This property looks ok from the outside but as soon as I walked into the hallway there was a distinct smell. And it wasnt air freshener. Hard to describe but kinda old and musty and dirty type smell. I had a studio room and I felt like I was in an old apartment. Im not a terribly picky person, but I will not stay here again. I was also woken up around midnight to people talking and slamming doors in the hallway.

I booked this hotel as all the other ones in the area were full. Check-in was efficient and the staff was polite. The room assigned to me 218 was on the other side of the parking lot.
A large room with a small kitchen and bathroom and two bedrooms. It is not the most modern looking anymore but is very clean and serves the purpose.

My first issue was the fact that the hotel only has Wi-Fi in the lobby area. The rooms do have complimentary internet cable access. The connection did not work and I was not the only one with the problem. As I was on a business trip, internet access was essential.
My second issue is the noise coming from other rooms. Walls and ceilings are really thin. Every step or water usage from the room next door or above could clearly be heard and woke me up.
The complimentary breakfast is very basic, the gym is limited to a treadmill, a cross trainer and a bike.
If you have no other options and do not need internet access, then TownePlace is an average place to stay. If you want better than average I would not recommend staying here.
I was checked in for 6 nights but left after the first as the hotel did not meet my needs.

Visited the San Francisco Bay area with our son and daughter, ages 24 and 21. The TownePlace Suites in Newark was chosen due to the ability to have a two bedroom suite with sofa sleeper in living area at a reasonable price. We were not disappointed. As noted in other reviews, the rooms could use a bit of updating and another TV in the second bedroom would have been helpful, but overall we were pleased with the facilities and the staff. The location was ideal for day trips into the city (via BART) as well as travel into San Jose (great flea market) and Monterey (great aquarium). Would recommend to anyone with larger family or needing extended stay in east bay.

We stayed here 10 days and the room was only made up once during that time. No place to put your garbage so the cans outside were overflowing every night. Living room decor was from the 60's. Fridge made a random noise like a machine gun and startled us. Forget how loud the dishwasher was! Worst of all, do NOT stay here unless you get a 4th floor room! Unless you want to be on the same schedule as the occupants above you. People upstairs finally stopped banging around at 1 AM and started up again at 5 AM!
