Every moment from the time we drove into the empty dirty parking lot, to the reception to the room, was a nightmare.
We had reserved a room, he receptionist took us back to a corner room, saying all of the way, "the lock doesn't usually work, let's go try it". The room was dirty. There was paperwork on the desk from the prior tenant, all of his demographics, name, ect. on display for us to read.
We were taken to another room, next to overfilled trashcans (feet from our door). The room was filthy, The sheets were so thin, you could read the pillow lettering through them. The bedspread had soiled marks on it. The towels in the bathroom, hanging up had soiled spots, some of them red in color (maybe lipstick). They were grayish - supposed to be white and also very thin. There was debri (trash) on the floor of the bathroom. I don't think the room had been cleaned, just the bed made and the used towels hung up. The shower curtain was very soiled, the floor of the shower was also stained, moldy looking. My husband and I walked out, the receptionist said we were not the only ones to walk out that same day. She said the paperwork was in the first room we were taken to because the guests refused to sign it.
We asked to have our charges taken off of our credit card, they had some computer problems and our credit card had never been charged at all. So, they were very nice to not expect us to pay. We drove for hours to our next destination when we had expected to have a break in Mt. Shasta on our road trip.

“QUAINT AND COMFORTABLE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

This place will take you back to an English Country village. Set on beautiful grounds with large trees and yet in walking distance to several excellent restaurants. All rooms are decorated beautifully (we have stayed in many) and are very comfortable. Wine in the garden is a treat and the morning meal is outstanding in the main house. A real pleasure for us when passing through the area on our travels.

Room Tip: Reserve room early if you know you will be traveling in the area

“Disappointing Experience Except for Staff...”

This was a big disappointment especially given the fact that your deposit is non- refundable. I would not stay there nor recommend it to anyone. Sadly, the staff will suffer, but the absentee owner must step up to the plate and spend some time on the property.

“Ok stop, slightly expensive for what you got.”

We stayed here for one night as part of a planned road trip around Northern California. Getting to Mount Shasta wasn't easy, and took us about 8 hours from Mendocino due to the type of roads we were on, so we were pleased when we arrived to a friendly welcome (can't remember the young girls name, but she was very helpful).

The room itself was rather dated and a bit shabby, bed quite soft and marks on the sheets. Other than that, quite clean and basic.

Mount Shasta town is pleasant and of course the views of the mountain are stunning.

Breakfast was ok, plenty of cereal choice and toast on hand just help yourself to everything.

On leaving we asked a lady on the reception desk how to get to the lake nearby, she wasn't very helpful and told us we should go across the street and ask someone over there as she didn't know. I just felt it must be one of two main questions people would ask, how to get to the Lake / Mountain!! And with the town not being that big, I found it abit unbelievable she didn't know! After the friendly welcome we received on arrival, it was rather disappointing. She didn't even look up from the desk when I went in to hand the key card in on departure.

After seeing some of the other accommodation options available, it is probably one of the best in the area, but in need of an update, and friendlier staff!

“Sad, very sad.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

We were moved here by hotel staff from across the street, into a king suite and a queen room. Rather than being charged whatever the room rates might be at this hotel, or being given a choice, we were charged the higher rates that had been quoted for housekeeping rooms at the Woodsman. A very poor value for our money.
How can I summarize our stay at Strawberry Valley? It felt like the rightful owner departed town for a long absence, and left their young adult children in charge. During our 4 day stay, the outdoor garbage cans, full of paper plates and trash, were never emptied. The hanging plants have all died, still hanging with dead foliage. The landscaping is neglected, and the sprinkler drenches the flotilla of folding chairs in the side yard every morning. Definitely not charming.
The breakfast buffet was poor quality, with questionable food handling practices. The egg-coated French toast slices were kept day-to-day in an unrefrigerated bread cabinet, and both the mini-muffins and fresh strawberries were served frozen. The juice cartons sported expired "use by" dates.
The king suite was nicely furnished; but the queen room was sad. There were soiled washcloths in the shower when we checked in, the shower did not drain, and the blinds were broken.
Next time, we'll stay at the Best Western.
