We were moved here by hotel staff from across the street, into a king suite and a queen room. Rather than being charged whatever the room rates might be at this hotel, or being given a choice, we were charged the higher rates that had been quoted for housekeeping rooms at the Woodsman. A very poor value for our money.
How can I summarize our stay at Strawberry Valley? It felt like the rightful owner departed town for a long absence, and left their young adult children in charge. During our 4 day stay, the outdoor garbage cans, full of paper plates and trash, were never emptied. The hanging plants have all died, still hanging with dead foliage. The landscaping is neglected, and the sprinkler drenches the flotilla of folding chairs in the side yard every morning. Definitely not charming.
The breakfast buffet was poor quality, with questionable food handling practices. The egg-coated French toast slices were kept day-to-day in an unrefrigerated bread cabinet, and both the mini-muffins and fresh strawberries were served frozen. The juice cartons sported expired "use by" dates.
The king suite was nicely furnished; but the queen room was sad. There were soiled washcloths in the shower when we checked in, the shower did not drain, and the blinds were broken.
Next time, we'll stay at the Best Western.
