“Ok stop, slightly expensive for what you got.”

We stayed here for one night as part of a planned road trip around Northern California. Getting to Mount Shasta wasn't easy, and took us about 8 hours from Mendocino due to the type of roads we were on, so we were pleased when we arrived to a friendly welcome (can't remember the young girls name, but she was very helpful).

The room itself was rather dated and a bit shabby, bed quite soft and marks on the sheets. Other than that, quite clean and basic.

Mount Shasta town is pleasant and of course the views of the mountain are stunning.

Breakfast was ok, plenty of cereal choice and toast on hand just help yourself to everything.

On leaving we asked a lady on the reception desk how to get to the lake nearby, she wasn't very helpful and told us we should go across the street and ask someone over there as she didn't know. I just felt it must be one of two main questions people would ask, how to get to the Lake / Mountain!! And with the town not being that big, I found it abit unbelievable she didn't know! After the friendly welcome we received on arrival, it was rather disappointing. She didn't even look up from the desk when I went in to hand the key card in on departure.

After seeing some of the other accommodation options available, it is probably one of the best in the area, but in need of an update, and friendlier staff!

“Sad, very sad.”

We were moved here by hotel staff from across the street, into a king suite and a queen room. Rather than being charged whatever the room rates might be at this hotel, or being given a choice, we were charged the higher rates that had been quoted for housekeeping rooms at the Woodsman. A very poor value for our money.
How can I summarize our stay at Strawberry Valley? It felt like the rightful owner departed town for a long absence, and left their young adult children in charge. During our 4 day stay, the outdoor garbage cans, full of paper plates and trash, were never emptied. The hanging plants have all died, still hanging with dead foliage. The landscaping is neglected, and the sprinkler drenches the flotilla of folding chairs in the side yard every morning. Definitely not charming.
The breakfast buffet was poor quality, with questionable food handling practices. The egg-coated French toast slices were kept day-to-day in an unrefrigerated bread cabinet, and both the mini-muffins and fresh strawberries were served frozen. The juice cartons sported expired "use by" dates.
The king suite was nicely furnished; but the queen room was sad. There were soiled washcloths in the shower when we checked in, the shower did not drain, and the blinds were broken.
Next time, we'll stay at the Best Western.

“Charming B&B atmosphere for the price of a modest motel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

I stopped at the Strawberry Valley Inn looking for just a room to crash after climbing Shasta. The first clue that it would be a great experience was finding Jeffrey, the owner, standing in the open door of the stone house/lodge chatting with guests. Even though most places in town were full or filling up he upgraded my room from a queen to a king when I said that I wanted to soak my tired body in a tub (queen had only a shower). He sent me to the room, actually a two room suite for $139+tax, with a glass of good pinot to relax. I noticed at breakfast that many of the guests seemed to be there for several days as the staff knew them and inquired about their plans for the day's activities. Definitely recommend the place.

“Charming, charming, charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2011

Wonderful Innkeepers, very personable; rooms recently totally renovated. Charming decor, 2 large flat-screen TV's, large immaculate bath. Spacious room, very comfortable bed & lovely sitting room. It was our first time there and we will definitely be back. We will not stay anywhere else in the vicinity on any future trips.

“Leery and odd”

It was too hot for us to go camping so we stayed here instead. The Inn is ok, it is way too expensive for what you get, room additions seem to have not been thought out. The room we stayed out was was ok for the price (ipod player was a nice touch though) I think the place has new owners and they really want to make the place work as they seemed too eager to schmooze and chit chat. Occasionally making us uncomfortable (sorry). They to be meet with landscapers/contractors regularly while we were there. The landscaping is lovely.

Breakfast was horrible and wasteful. I just found it lazy, there is a dishwasher there and staff, don't give us all the utensils just to throw away, no recycling.
