Pulling into Morro Bay and discovering to our dismay--and the dismay of the hotel proprietors--that the on-line hotel booking service we had used to book a room at another place (I won't name it here, but I'll just say it rhymes with "Hexpedia") had continued to book rooms for us and about 6 other guests long after the proprietors had called repeatedly and told them to stop because they were full, so there was no room for us, we drove around town to look for other accomodations and saw lots of "No Vacancy" signs. Driving by the Twin Dolphin Inn, we saw that their sign said there were rooms available, so we stopped in. We got what the desk clerk said was the last room, an "Ocean View" room with a king bed for $109.
It wasn't bad, but certainly nothing fancy. The room was sparsely appointed (standard budget motel furniture, bedding, and decor, 20-year-old CRT television, etc., but clean. It did have a nice daytime view, and a little balcony to enjoy it from--it was right across from Morro Rock. The only staff member we interacted with was the desk clerk, who was rather brusque, unwelcoming, and unfriendly. "Breakfast" was included, but it was worthless even by the low standards usually set in places like this--a few apples, some Cheerios, and some industrial-grade muffins that, in words of my teenage daughter, "tasted like cough syrup."
On the upside, the place was very quiet (being a comfortable distance from Highway 1 and its traffic), and generally comfortable. It wasn't memorable, but I would stay here again, though it probably wouldn't be my first choice in town.
