“lovely room, wonderful host”

We picked this hotel based on other travelers' reviews, and we can only echo their positive comments. Our room (201) was wonderful, with a balcony and windows on two walls overlooking the harbor and the bay. Jeff Anderson was a welcoming a host as we have ever experienced, and he made us feel immediately welcome and appreciated. This is a well-run family hotel that is clearly the pride and joy of its owners (where else would you find pictures of the housekeeping staff in the welcoming in-room brochure?). The room was tastefully decorated, with a large (soft) bed, and huge bathroom with shower and tub (with spa jets). We loved the hotel, and found Morro Bay fun to visit, though the ghastly power plant on the harbor really takes away from the otherwise idyllic fishing cove look of the village. The way we were received at the Anderson Inn made us feel that we always want to look for similar family-run small hotels when we travel.

Room Tip: Room 201 at the corner of the building is lovely.

“Wow, what a find!”

My hubby and I "stumbled" upon this gem of an inn and can't wait to go back!! From the moment you arrive you feel like they were waiting just for you and you are #1! Mollie and Jeff, two of the owners, warmly greeted us, escorted us to our room in time for a spectacular sunset and were so welcoming, we felt like we were family! Then we went to the restaurant and had the best oysters rocker feller I've ever had.......along with a great meal! And for the "entertainment" we were serenaded by the sounds of the sea lions and amused by the sea otters.......who needs Sea World?!? Hated to leave, but look so forward to going back!! Thank you Mollie and Jeff!!

Room Tip: We were in #2.....GREAT, but there are only 8 rooms so can't imagine any are bad!

“5*. What a gem!”

This hotel is such a little gem on highway 1. Morro bay is not on it's own the most scenic of stop offs on the way down highway 1 from SF to LA but this hotel is an excellent choice. The rooms are very comfortably appointed and beautifully furnished. Excellent bathroom with a quite incredible shower... You will have to stay to see what I mean...! The owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel also has the most incredible seafood restaurant on the ground floor. We ate there both nights of our stay. No need to look elsewhere. If you do stay, then it's worth hiring a kayak for half day to take round the bay. Lots of wildlife up close, pelicans, sea lions, sea otters and countless others. The sea lions are noisy, again, you'll have to stay to see what I mean, but not so bad to keep you awake at night! A must stay if you're in the area.

“Like returning home (only nicer).”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I have been meaning to write this review for a long time, since it is so well deserved. We first stayed at the Anderson Inn during our California trip in the summer of 2009. We had chosen Morro Bay mainly due to its location - about half way during our travel from Los Angeles to Yosemite. However, we loved the town and the Anderson Inn even more - it was the top hotel on our trip (others that were more expensive couldn't match the Anderson Inn). We loved it so much that we determined to spend more time there on our next trip, the summer of 2011. It was like returning home. Jeff and Mollie remembered our family from the previous trip and welcomed us warmly. Just to show their hospitality, Mollie offered to take our laundry and do it for us (we couldn't put her out like that, but it was a very nice offer). As another example, my son wanted to fish a little off the dock near the inn, and Jeff went into the kitchen of the attached Galley restaurant to get him some scraps of fish for bait. What is not to love about this place? The rooms are top-notch (much nicer than more expensive places we have stayed), the location is beautiful, and the owners are the nicest people I've met. If you have a trip planned to California, stay at the Anderson Inn. If rooms aren't available for the dates of your trip, rearrange your schedule. The Anderson Inn is that nice. By the way, be sure to make reservations for their attached restaurant, The Galley Seafood Grill. Excellent food and service.

“Personalized touch made this most memorable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

My wife and I traveled up the coast from Santa Monica to Carmel staying at 4 different spots. The Anderson Inn exceeded our expectations with their attention to detail and the personalized touch of the Inn keepers. Our room looking over the estuary was wonderful and we even enjoyed the occasional sound of sea lions in the bay! My wife said that the Anderson Inn had the best showers of any of the spots we stayed at (which wasn't something I was thinking about too much but she is right). The location, quality of the room, and surrounding area made this one of the most memorable of all spots we visited. We'd definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: Room looking over the bay/estuary was wonderful!
