“Garden Inn Monterey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Pleasant enough motel/hotel just off main road to San Fran but did not seem to suffer from any noise. Pleasant pool and very close drive to all the Monterey attractions. Good staff recommended excellent local resteraunts. Room was a little small compared to others we had on our trip, bed was ok but we never did succeed in getting onto balcony sliding door to open.
Loved Monterey but probably saw it at its best with no tourists and very pleasant weather.

We appreciate your review and comments. Thanks for mentioning that the hotel did not seem noisy to you with our relatively close proximity to Highway #1. Sorry you were unable to open our sliding door to the balcony, the extra security latch is designed to prevent people from coming in...not going out. We hope you return again soon!

“Great central location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My husband and I spent the weekend in Monterey at the Hilton Garden Inn. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and had all the amenities, except for a fridge. We used the hotel as our jumping off spot for the Aquarium, Salinas, Pebble Beach and Point Lobos. Although none of those are within walking distance, driving time to all but Salinas is under 15 minutes. We'd definitely stay there again.

We appreciate your positive review of our staff and guest rooms! I'm glad you got to see a few of the very special attractions here on the Monterey Peninsula! Point Lobos is so beautiful! Not sure how you missed the refrigerator in your guest room, all the rooms have the mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker in our hospitality center as well as free Internet, air conditioning, 42 inch flat screen TV, and balcony. Please come stay again soon!

“Mislead”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

I am a frequent traveler of hilton hotels. When i am in the santa cruz/monterey/carmel area i usually stay in the scotts valley hilton. However, i wanted to try another location. I feel completly mislead by the hilton website that describes their beds. I know what to expect from hilton and hampton but this is my first hilton garden inn and i can't believe all are this bad. The website went into their bedding and comfortable beds. WRONG ! I am not a monk and thus would like a comfortable bed. I felt like i was sleeping on a piece of wood ! Then the bedding - how often is the bedspread/comforter changed, not per every guest . It is one piece of fabric which a housekeeper could not keep on their cart. If there was a comforter with a cover it could be replaced after each guest. This "comforter" was the only blanket on top of the sheet so i had no choice. Then to top it all off, the pipes make noise ! Oh and they put a single female traveler , gold level, in a room that shares a balcony with another room !!!!!!! I could not open my slider all night as i did not know who had the other room. Lucky for me it was only one night ! I will not be revisiting

We are terribly sorry that you had such a bad experience. It is unfortunate that you did not tell us these things when you got to your room so we could have moved you to a room without a shared balcony and a more comfortable bed. Our King sized beds have air adjustments so the firmness can be modified, and our guests tell us our queen sized beds are quite comfortable.
Please stay with us again and let us make this right for you.

“Almost perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

This motel is perfectly located for access to key Monterey attractions, specifically the Aquarium, Cannery Row and Fisherman's warf. The room was spacious, very clean, appointed with fridge and microwave and the adjustable king bed was extremely comfortable. The only complaint I had was that the blower for the heater was a bit loud and disturbing. This was much less of a problem after the first night. Chalk it up to sleeping in strange enviornment.

Room Tip: Whale watching for migrating grays is at it's peak right now. Great adventure.

Thank you for your almost perfect review! We are thrilled how much you liked our location and the room amenities including the comfortable adjustable bed. We apologize for the noisy heater fan. Your timing to see the whales migrating in January was ideal, and truly a sight to behold! We look forward to your return!

“Not the best, but I guess OK for price in this area”

I travel cross-country and stay at Hilton properties as often as possible. I usually am happy with Hilton Garden hotels as most are of newer architecture. I'm surprised to see the high ratings given, but I guess these are based on the affordable price. I selected this based on brand and location during overnight stayover, rather than tourist attractions. The property is dated and laid out in an old architectural style that surrounds a pool. Parking is beneath the structure and lots of steps required to get into lobby and from parking to room. Doesn't compare to newer Hilton Garden properties due to old furnishings. Room was clean; bathroom small; hall carpets are outdated/worn/dirty. Noise travels from hall and from adjoining room. Even with the affordable rate, I'd spend a bit more and get something newer next time through.

Room Tip: If you have difficulties with stairs, check with management ahead for a room close to parking and ea...

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience here at HGI. We apologize for not providing a more excellent experience. Thanks for your winning suggestion recommending that guests not wanting to use stairs to ask for guest rooms close to one of our elevators, which can take the guest from the underground parking garage right up to their guest room floor.
