I am not sure how this place does so well in the tripadvisor ratings. I judge a hotel on the following criteria (1) comfort, (2) cleanliness, (3) service, (4) value, and (5) style.

For comfort Super 8 falls short. While the beds and pillows are OK, the shower was one of the worst I have come across lately. The water pressure was so low that I actually had to almost dance to get wet. The TV is fine with a good selection of channels, but it is installed so tightly to the wall without any adjustment available that only place to view it is from one of the beds in the room.

While the room appeared to be clean at first glance, it definitely did NOT smell clean. Upon entering I had to open all of the windows to attempt to air out the foul chemical smell. I also found hair from previous guests in the tub.

Service here was OK. Check-in was efficient and cheerful enough, but again nothing that impressed me.

I will not argue with value as the price was definitely competitive.

Finally, style is not a word a I would use for this property. Heck, you don't expect much from a Super 8 but this place is not even the best Super 8 I have visited.

I guess the big question is would I come back? The answer to that is if my other options were severely limited. It is a not a terrible place, but not a good place either.

We stayed here just for the one night on our way down the coast - we'd researched on the web and this was the best value. We were able to get a great king size suite for a really good price and we had a great sleep!! Our fridge in our room wasn't working and a call to reception soon sorted that out - new fridge delivered! Clean and comfortable, close to a great little shopping centre with Wholefoods (our favourite). Pool looked good but we didn't get a chance to use it. Breakfast in the morning was basic but fine - good stop for a road trip on the highway! Little way out of Monterey - but easy to find everything and just a short drive.

We stayed here for one night for the Big Sur Half Marathon. The room was clean and looked like it was recently remodeled. Some minor complaints are the musky smell in the room, and the size of the room. The table and the bed was close together so there wasn't much room to move around. The room amenities included cable tv, free wifi internet, mini fridge, microwave, and a coffee pot. Complimentary breakfast is in the main lobby. We checked out around 6am to get to the race, so we couldn't take advantage of the breakfast. Overall, we had a good night sleep and for a cheap price of $64 for the night.

- Del Monte Shopping Center is right across from the motel so you can walk across to shop and eat.
- The hotel is on a busy main street so the hotel may not work for those who are light sleepers.

Close to both monterey and Carmel. Clean and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was good.
