“A pleasant stay”

We very much enjoyed our two night stay at the Old Monterey Inn. The rooms and grounds are well maintained, and the new owners went out of their way to welcome us. The breakfast each morning was freshly cooked, hot, and most tasty. The first day it was described as an asparagus frittata but when served it was really an incredible asparagus souffle'. Our second morning, we found a fresh berry french toast that was much more like a light bread pudding. You may chose to eat in the dining room or in your room.
The home is located a short walk from downtown Monterey in a residential area with lots of vegetation. The first morning I went outside at about 0645 and saw two deer in the yard.
I debated between staying in Carmel and at this location. I am happy we chose this B&B.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a larger suite upon arrival as a courtesy, but I am sure we would have enjoyed a...

“Beautiful weekend getaway...”

My husband and I enjoyed everything about this wonderful place! From the beginning, I found the Innkeeper Katy very helpful. I called asking a few questions before booking and she seemed genuinely warm and sincere. I could sense right away that we would be taken care of and have a great experience at this place. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted with warmth. Checking in was like being welcomed into someone's home. The innkeeper gave us a tour of the inn as well as the beautiful grounds and gardens. It is truly a magical place. When you're there, surrounded by the gorgeous trees and landscape, there's so much to look at...we got lucky with the weather that weekend. My husband and I actually decided to eat our breakfast outside in the garden instead of in the dining room, because it was sunny! All we had to do was ask, and the innkeeper was happy to serve our breakfast to us in the garden. We stayed in the Dovecote room which is one of their smaller rooms, but once inside....it does not feel small at all. There was a separate sitting area in front of the fireplace and it was very romantic, very comfy. Even if it wasn't a huge room, it was just enough space. The room was very charming, very romantic. Perfect for a couple :) My husband and I absolutely loved this place and would recommend it to anyone!

Room Tip: The Dovecote was a very private room on the 3rd floor. Very charming room :)

“a perfect oasis”

We would second the many favorable reviews of the Old Monterey Inn, based on our first stay. The rooms and common areas are extremely attractive, breakfasts and wine/cheese offerings are very tasty, and the grounds are well-kept, spacious, and lovely. Katy and Lawrence are excellent innkeepers--very personable and welcoming, and pay attention to detail. The inn is an excellent base of operations for visiting the numerous sights in the area (don't forget the Pt. Pinos lighthouse and neighboring Asilomar State Beach at the end of the peninsula). We'll definitely be back.

Room Tip: 7 rooms are accessed via the interior of the house (5 on second floor, 2 on third floor); the other...

“Fantastic Retreat!”

What a great B&B! We got in pretty late, but the innkeeper was still around and greeted us with a glass of wine. The room (The Library) was cozy, with windows on three sides and a great fireplace and, of course, a wide variety of reading material. We were there 3 nights; breakfast was amazing every day. We didn't always make it back from exploring in time for cookies or wine & cheese (4-6 pm), but there was always fruit, coffee, and port available. We took a LONG drive down Hwy 1 (PCH) one day and saw amazing views of the ocean, bay seals, golf courses, light hiking, and even the elephant seals (fascinating), plus a great sunset. The Aquarium is a can't-miss opportunity. Be sure to get tickets from the innkeeper for easy access and get there before 1030 to see the sea otter feeding! The house grounds, with great landscaping and a friendly deer family, and the porch off our room, could keep me entertained for days by itself.

We ate dinners in Monterey, Carmel, and Paso Robles--the innkeeper made great recommendations, but I'm not sure it's possible to go wrong!

A bit on the pricey side, but worth it. Also, the house heat may not be on unless you request it. The fireplace was great, but got pretty chilly in the room otherwise.

I look forward to a return trip!

We just returned from our second stay at the Old Monterey Inn. The ambiance captures the heart from the impeccably maintained house and classic gardens to the personal care for each guest. No attention to detail was spared. Perfect in every respect.

Room Tip: We stayed in Brightstone each time which I found to be quite lovely with a garden view and fireplace...
