I am a fan of small, inexpensive hotels. If you're not, this might not be for you. The rooms are very clean and the view is decent. But the best part is it is one block up from Cannery Row. I was able to walk just a block to get to all my favorite restaurants and shops. There was a basket full of goodies so no real snacks needed. The staff was very friendly and they'll let you keep your vehicle there a few hours after you check out so you can enjoy the sights. I would highly recommend this for budget travel!

This property is right in the middle of the Cannery Row area, about 2 blocks up from the shore. I was in Monterey for a conference at the Monterey Plaza hotel, which charged nearly 5 times more for a room. The Otter Inn was only a quick 3 block walk to my conference, and was actually closer to most of Cannery Row. The room was neat and clean, with plenty of warm blankets and hot water for the shower. The in-room refrigerator and coffee were welcome (and there's a Starbucks one block over and one block down, too). And the little basket of snacks was a nice touch! The desk clerk also gave good recommendations on where to have dinner within walking distance.

This is your "basic motel" but the location is the best. You can walk to everything in Cannery Row. Staff lets you park before and well after check in and leave time. Rooms are clean and most have ocean views. Some with fireplace. We always stop here when we are in Monterey. Prices are very reasonable.

We received a decent rate to stay at the Otter Inn for a wedding in October and were underwhelmed by the property. Fortunately, the hotel was right on the waterfront and close to all the touristy attractions in Monterey. Not my first choice, but was decent.

The decor was incredibly outdated and dark, the bed old and squeaky. However, the property was clean and we felt fairly comfortable staying for three nights. Because of the state of the inn, we weren't inclined to be in our room for long, which prompted us to get out and see everything in the area, including a day trip down to Big Sur.

Probably wouldn't elect to stay here again. But was decent for the price we paid.
