“Nice ambiance on grounds, pleasant staff, BAD BEDS, noisy if on first floor with people above, and unsuitable breakfast arrangem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

The beds are very soft, as in nearly shot. We tried 4 beds, all the same. The most disturbing thing was noise above my room. I did complain about it and was told it was not rented. ????? There were some areas of neglect in the housekeeping attention to detail, nothing terrible, but it did make me wonder about their 3 diamond rating. VERY NICE was the small, semi- private patios off the rooms which circled a lovely courtyard (pool in the center was closed for repairs). Well cared for and nicely landscaped. You could hear the seals barking in the bay and have coffee in the sunshine if you are on the bayside wing. Bring your own cup if your coffee is important to you, theirs are miniscule. You have to go to the restaurant next door for breakfast. I'd have rathered grab a banana and a muffin from the lobby to eat on my prorch. In all, an average inn in a very nice setting.

“Great price, quiet location walking distance to The Old Fishermans Warf.”

My fiance and I stayed here one night passing thru while driving to San Fran. Recommend the upstairs room (214?) It had high ceilings, fridge, microwave, coffee maker. You park in front your room which makes unloading easy. We walked along the shore up to the old fishermans warf and ate breakfast. Way less touristy which is great! There is a small inlet which you can rent paddle boats on.

The location is great. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable . We spent most of our time site seeing so we only needed a place to sleep. We would stay here again.

“No-frills stay in downtown Monterey”

Two star motel in a four star location, so I guess that averages out to three. The lights are depressing, energy saving fluorescents; the one in the bathroom is so dim, you're forced to use the heat lamp just to see. Nice that there's a refrigerator, not so nice that it ran all night long with the sound of dripping water. Shower faucet seemed broken. Very squeaky and hard to turn. We didn't use the pool so it didn't matter, but if a pool is a factor for you then you should be aware that it is TINY. More like two hot tubs connected in the middle. You won't be swimming any laps in there, that's for sure. Some reviews mention fireplaces, but our room (109) didn't have one. On the plus side, the microwave, hair dryer, and iron worked well. Toiletries were nice, especially the citrus glycerin soap.

The room was pleasant enough in daylight and I can see how careful photography could make it seem like a nice place, but it just seems like a crummy motel when you pull up to that glaring blue sign after dark and walk into your badly lit room. Still, for the price, the location is excellent. Just know that you won't be getting much else for your money.
