The new freeway skirts around Mojave and the town seems to be struggling, but this hotel was the highest priced one according to the AAA TourBook, so we stayed there. What a mistake. It looks very nice from the outside and the lobby area isn't bad either but the room we were given and we were told it was the "last" non-smoking room available--but funny, the parking lot was virtually empty and the hotel appeared dead. Anyway, the room was bland to say the least and it had a terrible smell, not smoke, just a terrible funky awful smell. The coffee maker didn't work and had to be replaced, the TV was stuck on "text" and the desk had to come up and fix it. The pillows were as thin as tissue paper, the beds hard as a rock. After arriving late and being tired, we just put up with it and went to bed. The next morning was even worse--the continental breakfast in what used to be their restaurant, but it apparently died like the rest of the town--was a virtual icebox (no heat at all) and the continental breakfast was some watered down OJ and an ice-cold danish that was so cold, it was hard to even cut. You had to leave your coat on to eat it was so cold in the room. Then walking out the sidewalk to get in our car you had to dodge the dog excrement was all over the sidewalk. Do yourself a favor and skip this town and definitely pass on this hotel. Drive a little farther down the Antelope Valley and stay in Lancaster or Palmdale.
