We booked this hotel based on others' Trip Advisor reviews and high ratings. We were looking for a place between our arrival in San Francisco (packed, because of a convention!) and Yosemite, where we were heading. Looking at the map, that'd be Modesto! We were encouraged by people's saying how clean and tidy this place was, and we weren't disappointed.

The hotel is situated between a freeway on-ramp and a railroad line, so there's a fairly constant drone of traffic, punctuated by an occasional train horn from just across the road. The first time we heard a train it was a shock, but after that it was bearable.

The pool courtyard is absolutely lovely. Again, the traffic noise reminded us of where we were, but my school teacher wife pointed out that families could let their kids be as loud as they wanted, without fear of annoying other guests.

The room itself was the draw for us: clean, comfy, nice fixtures, great bed. Sometimes, for a "stopover" hotel, that's all I'm looking for - and this place delivered everything that really mattered.

First, the good things. This motel has clean rooms, good free breakfast items, biscuits and gravy, cereal, fruit, bagels, stuff like that. The pool and spa looked very clean, but I did not get the chance to go in. I could do a load of laundry, that was nice. The bed was very comfortable and the room nicely appointed with a comfortable sofa, table and desk. There is also a little frig, and microwave. Also for semi truck drivers...there is adequate parking for your rig. Now, the not so good things. There is a train that goes by very frequently and it seemed that during the night is when the driver would sound his horns. Not the motels fault, but the morning after our first night, we went for breakfast and noticed a bowl of earplugs on the desk that we did not notice when we checked in. So my husband jokingly said "you should put up a sign about the trains and offer the earplugs" . The clerk responded "NOOO....didn't you read the reviews??". I thought that was NOT an appropriate response to a guest. Even if she had heard that comment 100 times before. We just chalked it up to her having a bad day. So then when we were leaving for the day, I left a note for the housekeeper asking to please leave 2 more pillows and 2 extra bath towels as I knew that I would be coming back very late and did not want to go to the front desk. She took the note but did not leave the items. Maybe she forgot, I don't know. I will say though that I originally booked the room for 2 nights and then stayed an additional night. We did wear ear plugs the last 2 nights and the bed was so comfy and we slept great. So all in all, like I said, I would stay here again. Hope this helps.

Hotel is clean every thing lives up to my expectations. The ac worked great, so good . They only put 2 towels in the bathroom but that was no biggie. shower is good. Bedding sufficiant. Breakfast was nothing to talk about, had one bite of a biscut and gravy and threw it away. You would think they would do better on their gravy? I get gravy packets with the chicken fried steak i buy and it's alot better. I guess a couple stayed next door? They were having fun for a couple hours at a time with the bed headboard banging against our wall alot, did not mind to much cause i wasn't sleeping at the time , my buddie did not like it cause it was against his wall. There is a am/pm in walking distance as well a Mcdonalds I don't know if that del taco is still there? Pool and spa look nice didn't try them.

We have stayed in Super 8's in the past and have found the quality to vary greatly from location to location so we weren't sure about staying here. Since the reviews we read were very favorable and it was rated 3 diamonds by AAA we decided to give it a try and we were glad we did. When we pulled up we thought we might be in the wrong place because the exterior was much nicer than a typical Super 8. The desk clerk informed us that it had formerly been a Holiday Inn Express so I guess that explains the difference. Our room was very large and comfortable and we liked the sofa as we wanted to watch a movie. We arrived late in the evening and didn't use the pool so I can't rate that, although most Super 8's we have stayed at before didn't even have a pool. As mentioned in other reviews, there was noise from the train and highway but it didn't really bother us once we closed the door and turned on the air conditioner. A light sleeper might have a problem, but we slept fine and the bed was very comfortable. We noticed traces of lesser Super 8's with the thin towels and spartan continental breakfast, but the hotel was an excellent value and we would stay there again.
