I stayed at this location in Jan, 2011. At a rate of 134.00/ night I found it adequate.

The good
-The staff was very accomidating. When I asked where I could buy headphones for the fitness center equipment- they gave me a pair
-They offer guest laundry ( ~1.00 a load) and dry cleaning services ( 6.00 a shirt).
-It’s a 5 minute walk to the great Mall (there are a few restaurants in the mall)


The not So good

-The fitness center is Tiny ( 3 pieces of equipment) and I think it actually is in a converted closet or storage area
-The lobby area offers 3 or 4 seats and no place to eat breakfast ( when they say grab and go they mean it… take your food and get out!
-The room did smell clean but aired out withthe AC on
-Shower fogs up the bath and the door wont stay open.
-The pool is pretty small.

Overall I agree with the previous comment that Marriott should concentrate on Residence Inn, rather than splitting the brand. Being relatively new, I found this place to be fine, but the inexpensive building construction and furniture is going to look pretty bad, very quickly.

Tip:
Ask to be in the main building (with the lobby), it saves a walk across the parking lot to get breakfast.
There is an elevator, but you have to look for it ( it is actually behind a door)
The Colosseum has pretty good pizza.

I went along with my husband on a business trip, and had a chance to get away from cold snowy New England weather for a bit. The Towne Place Suites closer to where he was working was booked so we tried this one. It has recently been redone, so everything is very new and clean. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the rooms were kept spotless, they come in everyday to clean. You cannot see the hotel from the freeway, but have to drive into the mall entrance and it is across the parking lot. This means there is no traffic noise from cars. The hotel is just a short walk across a parking lot from a very large mall. It is unique because it seems to be three malls in one. It has several "streets". One is an outlet mall, one has discount stores such as Marshall's, and one seems to be boutique and specialty stores. There are several nice looking restaurants plus a very large and varied food court.

I did notice a freight train yard on the other side of the trees at the back of the hotel. They blow their horns and they are very loud, several times a day. I was reading about the history of Milpitas on the internet and learned this used to be a a large farming area and later an industrial area, with an automobile manufacturing plant where the mall is now. The freight yard is still there and active. They only blew horns during the day while we were here, but it is startling when you hear it so close.

The Towneplace suites serves breakfast food each morning to take back to you room. There is juice, a good selection of cereal, both cold, and microwaveable oatmeal. There is also yogurt, packaged cinnamon rolls, granola bars and muffins along with plenty of fresh fruit that is out all day also. They also have hot coffee, tea and cocoa available all day in the lobby. There is a pool which we did not use. Next door is a Courtyard hotel, and you can use the facilities there as well.

I used the laundry and it is right off the lobby, and I had some cocoa and read the newspaper while it washed and dried. There were always plenty of newspapers even later in the day.

My husband had to drive about 15 minutes to get to work, and he said the traffic was very heavy in the evening when he was coming home. We would have liked to be closer to his worksite, but other than that this was an excellent place to stay and had everything you could possible want on a business trip.

I've been going up to San Jose for the half marathon the past 3 years and have stayed at this hotel every time. It's right next to the Great Mall, so it's convenient for any shopping and it's not far off the highway exit, so it's easy to get to. It also has the convenience of being near the BART as well.

As for the hotel itself, the rooms are very clean and nice. It's great to have a little kitchen and they provide everything you need to cook meals.The beds are comfortable and the have nice LCD TV's. The staff is nice and friendly and they provide a great continental breakfast. They also have snacks in the afternoon so you can get some fruit or cookies. And it's all good quality snacks. No generic stuff, but all name brand.

Lots of parking and has a nice pool too. All in all a great little place and worth the money.

Stay at TPS was amazing, wonderful breakfast in the morning, everyday room service, nice interiors in the suite. Besides this there is an exercise room to relax, a swimming pool. Hotel staff arranged for free access to Jacuzzi and Gym in Courtyard hotel next to TPS.

Overall stay was wonderful and relaxing.
