“Nice hotel bad location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

I recently stayed at this Courtyard in Merced. The location is not what I would have expected from Marriott. You have the freeway on one side and the trains rolling by on the other. The only place to eat within walking distance is a musty smelling Carrows. The neighborhood isn’t the greatest either. The hotel and staff were great. It has the new bistro in place and the hotel is clean and updated. It’s too bad the location doesn’t make it more appealing but that’s just the facts. There are many restaurants within a few miles but nothing within walking distance. Keep in mind there isn’t a lot of choices in Merced. So I would probably stay at this Courtyard if I was to stay in Merced again. The beds could be a little softer. My bed was rock hard to say the least.

Room Tip: There really isn't a great side to this hotel

“Clean hotel but lots of highway noise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

The hotel is a good place to stop to stage a visit to Yosemite. It's very clean. The room was spotless, bed comfy, nice sized bathroom. And remodelled into the new Courtyard style. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

The hotel sits right next to the highway and even with a room opposite the road, you could still hear road noise. Not horrible horrible but if you a light sleeper it may be a problem.

The pool is on the cold side; paddle fast to keep warm.

Room Tip: Ask for a room opposite the highway for more quiet.

“Excellent hotel for stopover”

Arrived in Merced around 1900 after a few days in Yosemite looking for stopover on journey west. Called in on spec and was greeted with friendly and accommodating receptionist. Reasonable price for single night. Delighted to have easy laundry facility too.
Large clean comfortable room. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it.

“After a hot day in the brutal sun, I always say: "Please pass the humus".”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

This is probably one of the best motels in the Merced area. It was clean, reasonable, and located not far from downtown. When I walked in, the first thing that struck me was the "Bistro". The desk attendant explained that it was new. It has booths and tables. It included a bar and had both wine/beer and hard drinks. After a hot day (in the 90's) at the track in Atwater, this was a welcomed sight. The only table available had not been cleaned so I walked over to the bar and asked one of two servers if they could come and take my order. No, they don't service the table. I quickly asked if I could have a towel to wipe the table. The were reluctant to give me one. I asked if I had to wash the dishes too? They weren't amused but two nearby patrons were.

I asked if they serve appetizers and they told me humus and spinach dip. Who eats humus in Merced? I passed. Such a good idea with very poor execution. Really brought the overall rating down. Judge for yourself.

“Excellent stay, relatively close to Yosemite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

Everything you are expecting from the Courtyard hotels. Very pleasant reception desk, beautiful decor, Having a boarding pass printing station is a big plus also/computer access in the lobby.
Many food options very close by.
Room was very quiet and had very many electric outlets to charge our various phones, computers ect. Good lighting too.
It was about 2 hrs drive to Yosemite Park, what allowed us early and not crowded entrance to the park.
I would stay there again.
