“Faded Grand Lady”

In the 1990's and the early part of the last decade, the Whitegate Inn was the place to stay in Mendocino. For the past 15 years when I visited Mendocino, I stayed at the Whitegate. The property was taken over by the bank around January, and new owners are expected in June. At this time the inn is but a hallow shell of its former glory. Wait unitl the new owners bring much needed upgrades to the inn. Hopefully, the Whitegate Inn can be restored to the beautiful, charming, and quaint inn that it used to be.

“Perfectly met our needs!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2010

We immensely enjoyed our stay at the Whitegate inn. I think they are under temporary new management - Brandon and James were our hosts and they were pleasant. The inn might now be part of a chain of inns (based on the brochures in the parlor) but they appear to have kept things mostly the same: we had tasty wine and cheese hour and delicious chocolate chip cookies 24 hours!

We were in Violet's room and it was a good (small) size for the two of us. Plentiful hot water and good water pressure. Loved the fireplace and fresh wood everyday! Tasty breakfast, good location close to everything in Mendocino.

We had a nice stay at the whitegate inn.

“Great Getaway In Mendocino!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2009

This place is perfectly charming, and reminiscent of all that I love about Mendocino. You almost feel like you've stepped back in time by staying here, yet everything is beautifully decorated. My room had a view of the ocean, and it was wonderful waking up to that each morning. The owners' dog, Corky, is just as sweet as can be (as are the owners themselves). Breakfast is included with your stay, and it's truly a gourmet experience. Location is great too, as the inn is located right in the heart of the village. Affordable yet elegant, the Whitegate Inn is everything a B&B should be, and more. They really get it right here.

“Overpriced and Uncomfortable”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2009

Plenty of "Foo Foo" but aging antique furniture is in need of repair. Couches & chairs in rooms and common rooms are shot, in need of new cushions and springs. Our bed was collapsed on one side and gave me an astonishing backache. Cheap wine & cheese, ho hum breakfast. They brag about attentive service, but I did not share that experience. Hugely expensive.

“An excellent choice...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2009

We stayed here for two nights and loved the position of the inn and all it has to offer. We booked relatively last minute and had Spring Meadow, the smallest room of the 6. However, it was still very comfortable. We looked at the other rooms whislt they were being cleaned and they are all lovely. The two breakfasts we had were delicious and the innkeepers hospitable. The gardens are pretty and we took our wine and cheese in to the garden as the weather was just lovely; sunny, no fog and warm.
Try 955 Ukiah for dinner ( it's next door, as is Cafe Beaujolais - which is stuffier), We also ate at The McCallum and it was good. The bar is lively and we were glad we didn't stay here as they seem to farm guests out all over town. Walk the headlands, visit Silver's at Noyo Harbor for a plentiful lunch, stop by the lighhouse and just enjoy not planning your time!
