“Paradise!”

This is a unique haven in a magical landscape. Mendecino is incredibly beautiful and had plenty of blooms even in February. The rooms are comfy and the restaurant is fabulous whether you are vegetarian or not. The food is beautiful, delicious and healthy, it just happens to not use animal products. The owners are wonderful, enlightened souls who make the world a better place by their efforts. We had a wonderful stay and are going back as soon as we can!

Room Tip: They are all in tranquil, wonderful surroundings

“Please... Can I Live Here?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

In a beautiful rural setting a short walk from the sea, this lovely inn pampers you with rustic luxury and fabulous food. The room is beautifully appointed, with comfortable beds and a fireplace ready to light. There are balconies overlooking the vegetable gardens that supply some of the food that is served, with views of the ocean and the horses, donkeys, and llamas that frolic on the grounds. A giant pool, jacuzzi, and exercise room are included and available until very late at night. An easy hike brings you to the magnificent views from the cliffs overlooking the Pacific (think Big Sur). Kids will enjoy a visit with the animals. All of this is worth the trip. But then there is the food! For vegans and vegetarians, this is paradise. For omnivores, this is an awakening. The brilliant flavors and imaginative presentations rival the finest gourmet restaurants while leaving out all of the stuff that has led to illness and obesity at epidemic levels. No one here misses the animal-based foods that are so prevalent elsewhere. Every course... soup, salad, entree, dessert and the accompanying local wines make the palate sing! We departed the Stanford with mixed feelings... thrilled by the experience and saddened by having to return to the mundane world. The inn is expensive, but worth every cent. I regret that we live on the wrong coast.

“Wonderful Eco-Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

I'm vegan so it's a treat to come to a place with vegan cookies in the room and a gourmet vegan restaurant where I can eat anything I want!
Our room 231 was extremely quiet and we couldn't hear anyone nearby, nice balcony, fireplace and bed.
The restaurant was so good, I can't begin to describe the experience there, and having a resident nutrition advisor in the dining room was a unique experience. I should mention they have an excellent wine list, cocktails, liquors and non-alcoholic beverages. So nice to have vegan brunch in the morning too!
My only regret is that we did not stay longer. We were not able to use the spa services or go bicycling. We are already planning our next visit!

Room Tip: we like room 231

“Great getaway with the dog”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

We love traveling with our dog and visited for our anniversary this past year. The room's view was amazing...we got a handicap accessible room which made for an awkward shower (as with any handicap shower, it was hard to contain the water) but that is definitely not a ding against the property. A great indoor pool makes for a fun pool experience even in the cold weather. Breakfast was included...vegan...so so delicious! We are hearty meat eaters, but really loved all the vegan fare there...the greens were so beyond delish (fresh from their garden), I did not miss meat in the least, and their breakfasts were a great way to kick off the meals. Our dog loved visiting the llamas...the llamas seem pretty used to seeing dogs so they came right up to her to say hello. A most memorable anniversary; we can't wait to return!

If I were to go back I would request a room farther away from the main building...we were in the room closest to reception and the noise from people trampling up and down the handicap ramp was really disturbing early in the morning.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms close to the main building if you like to sleep in...the rooms are not very sound proof...
