“You'll want to go back!”

I surprised my husband with a stay here for his birthday. It was absolutely perfect! From Charles' warm reception, to the wine and chocolates in our room, to his solicitousness to ensure that we had the perfect stay in Mendocino. The afternoon team and cookies were perfect to enjoy in the cold weather, and the room was overall very comfortable and cozy. We took full advantage of the hot tub with jet sprays, as well as the fireplace. It was all in all a very romantic place to stay! And the breakfast, oh the breakfast... Warm pumpkin waffles with almond cream, accompanied by two sausage patties, fresh OJ, coffee or tea, and we were in heaven. I'm personally not a fan of waffles or pancakes, but these were wonderful. We were able to sit outside on the porch, with side heaters that kept us warm in the chilly January air. Overall, lovely and perfect. Their cat, 'no show', also gave the Inn a warm feeling. The location is very easy to access the Headlands and downtown. Once we parked here, we didn't need to get back in the car until we left. We hope to come back again soon!

Room Tip: The Master room, although off the main parlor, has a separate foyer to ensure that noise from the pa...

“Best B&B on North Coast PERIOD.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Update Jan 1 2012.

We have been coming to the Joshua Grindle Inn for eleven years and it never ever disappoints. Charles and Cindy sincerely want all their guests to have a wonderful stay and they work hard to achieve that goal.

Once again we headed to Mendocino to celebrate New Years with daunting forecasts of rain. Just as I prior years, the rain was intermittent and finally ceased giving us glorious sunny days and crystal clear winter ocean views.

Take the hike from Cleone Lake to Ten Mile River. It's a ten mile round trip beach walk. If you tire you can just turn around at any point. We love the seemingly endless stretch of beach and crashing waves. We saw dozens of whales spouting close to shore and had a big curious river otter cruise by us time and again as we ate our lunch on the bank of Ten Mile River near the mouth.

The room was, as always, spotless and lovely. There are always nice little touches. A complimentary half bottle of good wine and a wood stove already stoked with logs and kindling greeted us.

Internet WiFi had always been a bit spotty in the tower rooms but this time it was rock solid and FAST. Charles, ever the perfectionist, had invested in an upgraded mesh capable repeater router and it performed flawlessly.

Cindy and Charles are pros who care. When they ask you about your stay it isn't just idle conversation. They take note of guest comments. If something needs attention they tend to it. They also stay on top of things. They don't let mattresses get saggy before they replace them. They don't wait for sheets and towels to fray before getting new ones. They care and it shows on every visit.

Guests can visit the Parlor anytime day or night and it's always stocked with complimentary home baked cookies, a nice tea assortment, hot water and even some desert wine. It's a great place to read or just unwind.

Ample on site parking is a bigger deal than you might imagine. I prefer walking a few steps to my car to retrieve a forgotten item rather than trekking a block.

The delicious breakfasts are legendary, just read any of the reviews.

The facility is charming and very well maintained. There are lots of charming inns in Mendocino however. What keeps us coming back is the warm and gracious hospitality. It is unique: genuine, non intrusive and personal. The owners make your satisfaction their goal, every day, every stay.

You just can't make a better choice for a B&B in Mendocino or the whole North Coast for that matter. If this is your first visit the choice is simple. After that you'll come back based on the great stay you had. It's no surprise that the majority of the guests here are returning guests.

It's a very romantic place too.

**************************

We've been coming here for over a decade. It's still the best. There are lots of charming gracious inns to choose from but here are some good reasons why the Joshua Grindle truly leads the pack.

It has a great location in the village of Mendocino. You can walk to everything easily with a big plus: ample off street on site parking. It's a hassle at other places because sometimes your car has to be parked a few blocks away. The Joshua Grindle is located a block away from the edge of the village center so you are just far enough away from the bars, cars and traffic to enjoy a tranquil visit.

The owners Charles and Cindy are hands on and care very much about their guests having a pleasant stay. They and their lovely innkeeper Lindsey go way out of their way to help in any way they can. They'll refer you to good places to go based soley on merit not reciprocal referrals or commissions. They will chase down everything from a car parts store to whether a particular back road is open.

The Joshua Grindle breakfasts are legendary. Don't take my word for it, read the other reviews.

A large percentage of the guests are return customers as we are. That speaks volumes about guest satisfaction.

The Mendocino coast is a place of unparalleled beauty. The Joshua Grindle is your perfect base for exploring all it has to offer. You will definitely have a great experience staying here. I've stayed at many others and they are nice, but this is unquestionably the best.

“Absolutely outstanding in every way”

My family and I recently stayed at Joshua Grindle Inn and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although we stayed at the Grindle Guest House, which is separate from the main complex, it was absolutely fantastic. The house is very well furnished, including a complete kitchen with a great variety of utensils, bowls, pans, etc. for whipping up meals, is immaculate, and is in a gorgeous setting. It was perfect for our family. The Inn hosts, Cindy and Charles, made sure our stay was very comfortable. Cindy provided excellent tips on places to eat in Fort Bragg and Mendocino - definitely the type places that are "insider knowledge only" ... typical tourists would be very unlikely to find on their own. Every place we went to had excellent food and a great feel. Bottom Line: Joshua Grindle Inn is an excellent place to stay! I highly recommend it.

“It's like coming home...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

From the friendly, courteous reservation phone call to the final goodbye's, our stay at the Joshua Grindle Inn was just perfect. Charles and Cindy have put together an inn where virtually anything one needs has been provided for or throughout of. The rooms are charming, spotless, cozy and warm. The furnishings and amenities are what one would have at home: familiar and of high quality. They go out of their way to make sure each guest is comfortable and enjoying their stay in Mendocino. Breakfast is delicious, fresh and served either outside on the porch in front of space heaters (to fight off that Mendocino chill) or at a charming community table inside. We fell in love with the resident cat "No Show," and were sad to say goodbye. We will definitely be back.

“Wonderful place to spend a weekend in Mendocino!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We were hoping for good things based on the reviews, and we couldn't be happier after staying here. The room was nice and warm (in every sense) - so nice to relax in that we were almost sad to go out and explore the area. The breakfasts were great and Charles and Cindy are a wonderful couple. Landscaping is nice too, and we thought the parlor fully stocked with tea, homemade cookies and sherry was a very nice touch. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: South Cyprus is great - costs a little bit more, but it's worth it.
