“Good breakfast, bad management”

My wife and I stayed here during a Memorial Day weekend getaway. We booked the Headlands Room for two nights (Fri/Sat) and mentioned to the owner we might want to stay a third. The morning after our second night, we confirmed we'd like to stay one more night (mostly to avoid the hassle of moving), and were told this would be no problem. After driving around Anderson Valley winerys for the day, we returned to Annie's around 6 pm. The caretaker approached and said he had forgotten that someone else booked the room and that we'd need to clear out the room and leave. We were shocked (having stayed two nights already) that he had done nothing to arrange alternative lodging, and he seemed annoyed at our request that he suggest and/or help us find somewhere else to stay--no easy task on a busy holiday weekend! This was our first B&B experience, and we were disappointed to end a relaxing day having to rush to find alternate lodging--isn't the personal touch supposed to be the reason for paying extra for a B&B? The room was small with a semi-functional radio; bed felt well used, though everything was clean. If you're not wild about the whole B&B thing, I wouldn't recommend throwing $190 a night, despite the breakfast. There's great breakfast possibilities in Fort Bragg just down the road, and much better things to do than hang around in Annie's quasi-antique living room. All said, we were disappointed...

“A Belated Review...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2005

I apologize for waiting for 2 years to write this review, but I figured it's better to be late than to never do it at all.

My wife and I stay in the Mendocino area at least twice a year, and we stayed at the Jughandle once in late 2003 in one of the rooms in the converted barn.

While the room was okay and it was cool to have a hot tub in our bathroom, the main problem we faced was that when we filled the tub with warm water, it smelled faintly like raw sewage.

I realize of course that it wasn't actually sewage we were smelling, but whatever was making the water smell that way was a turnoff.

The owners were nice and the breakfast was good, but in our minds, what good is a jacuzzi if you don't want to use it?

I can still remember that smell 2 years later, btw.

I spent 4 days at this B&B, and loved it. The location is great for its direct view of the ocean and its nearby wonderful Jughandle Park. There is but a short drive to Mendocino. The hosts are welcoming and helpful. Breakfast is very nice. Clean and cozy, the B&B is a very good value.

“Glad to see Annie's has new owners”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2004

Annie's Jughandle is very nice bed and breakfast. Very warm and cozy and reasonable prices. I'm glad to hear they under new management. The previous owner claimed to be a minister. He performed my marriage on the beautiful cliffs of Mendocino overlooking the ocean. Three months later the county recorder in which I live in, sent me a letter stating they never received my signed marriage certificate. I discovered the man was a fraud. He took our $250 for a marriage he performed illegally. What a nightmare that was. All the stress from what happened due to this man's wrong doings I never remarried.

“Cozy at Annie's Jughandle B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2004

Arriving to Annie's Jughandle B&B after the 3-1/2 hour drive from the Sacramento area left us anxious to unwind and get comfortable. Well, Annie's B&B was just the place to do that. We were welcomed with friendly smiles from the owners and a special performance by thier adorable little dog, Lexi, alternatively known as Prima Ballerina! The Forest Room was clean, cozy and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. We were provided with maps to local hiking trails, beaches and restaurants for dinner. The entire experience was warm and cozy! I highly recommend this charming B&B when looking for lodging in the Mendocino/Ft. Bragg area.
