I remember first coming to the Alegria 4-years ago, before I met my wife. I knew this place was special right from the start. The staff and owners there were so warm and welcoming and it is the only hotel I know of in Mendocino which has direct beach access from the grounds. I knew I wanted to come back again some day with someone special. Cove Cottage, at the Alegria, is in fact the place I chose to propose to my wife. It's such a beautiful little cottage. When I told the owners and staff that I was planning this, they were all too willing to help get things set up for when we arrived. The Alegria is one of those very special places where it is about the experience and getting away. You can truly feel as though you can slow down, take in the surrounding beauty, and relax here. Again, this place is special.

Originally only due to stay one night we were charmed into staying for two nights in the Driftwood cottage. Given the choice of staying in the cottage or over the road in their sister b&b the cottage won hands down, a lovely quirky place with everything you could need.The hosts were great and the breakfasts were wonderful and different each day. Menodicino was so lovely, i only hope we can go back one day.

My husband and I spent one night at the Alegria Inn in December 2011 and absolutely loved it. We stayed in the Treehouse room, which was rustic and funky - in a good way! It was very well-appointed with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in (if you like your mattress super-firm it might not be for you, but I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud).

Minus one star because the bathroom could use a bit of updating. The sink is old-fashioned with two separate faucets for hot and cold water, making it a challenge to do things like washing your face (I had to use the kitchen sink), and the shower head is starting to fall apart. At $265 a night I have high expectations!

Breakfast was delicious and the sun room was the perfect setting in which to enjoy it. We also appreciated all of the little details - morning newspaper in front of our door, complimentary sundry items available in the lobby in case you forgot anything and snacks available for purchase, yummy cookies and lemon bars, and a celebratory bottle of wine in honor of our anniversary.

The inn is perfectly situated - an easy walk down the hill to the beach, and also the perfect home base for strolling around town.

Can't wait to go back!

We stayed at the Pacific Suite and our parents at the adjoining Sea Breeze. These two rooms are situated on the 2nd floor of the main house. There are 2 cottages in the beautiful garden, which we looked at and like a lot, as well. The Pacific Suite is the most spacious, airy and boasts not only one but two decks, with a large one facing the ocean. The smaller one serves as a private entrance directly from the parking lot. We like the large bathroom with separate toilet and a window adorning the soaking tub trimmed with period woodwork. The best features, however, is the day bed and the table, each with its own window, and the built in pantry with a fridge and sink, not to mention a fireplace and wifi access. The Sea Breeze is smaller but has its own balcony overlooking the ocean as well. Alegria is perfect for those who find Victorian B&B too "flowery", or as my husband would say, "fu fu" (I never asked where he got that from), and do not wish a sleek ultramodern interior for their getaway in Mendocino. Alegria is perfect because it is warm, welcoming, and not pretentious, yet very comfortable and replete with modern amenities (even TV if you must). The owners, Eric and Elaine, and their daughter, Tavi, are the most delightful innkeeper trio we absolutely adore.
