“Awesome stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We stayed at the Manhattan Beach Marriott for 5 nights over the New Years weekend. The location of the hotel was so convenient, approximately one mile (maybe sightly more) down to the beautiful beach area. Neat restaurants just a block off the beach, we found this area to be very family friendly. The staff at the hotel was so pleasant and helpful the entire time. The morning breakfast buffet was marvelous with great service also. The grounds are so relaxing with lots of green space...was surprised there in the city. Would definitely stay there again.

“Good business hotel & facilities. Great stay with the family.”

The company I work for selected this hotel for a week-long series of meetings, and we stayed here for 8 nights with my partner and our 4yr old son. We were given a junior suite on the 7th floor with two double beds, overlooking the golf course.

The suite was very spacious with a lounge, seperate bedroom and kitchenette (sink and empty fridge), which came in useful. The bathroom was spotless and a very nice size. Both beds were very comfy and had memory foam, which we've decided we really like! Two large TVs (one in bedroom, one in lounge) was a nice touch. There was a large balcony which would have been ideal to enjoy the unusually warm winter weather we were having. However, there was no balcony furniture and oddly, a sliding window instead of a patio, so you'd have to climb out of the window if you wanted to go on the balcony! Very strange...

The room was serviced daily and to a high standard. We did have to ask for more coffee though, as we felt that they were a bit stingy on just giving us 2 x coffee sachets per day.

We didn't use the pool, gym or golf facilites. I did use the conference and business facilities and they were very good.

We hired a car and was worried about the pricey $21 to park per night. Fortunately, the company had arrange complimentary parking passes and free wireless room internet (normally a $12.95 charge per 24 hrs). There is free wireless in the lobby however.

PARKING TIP: If you are stung for the parking charge, I've read somewhere that there is free parking at the golf car park to the right of the hotel as you look at it, but can't verify this as we didn't need to use it. We could see the car park and it didn't look like there was anybody monitoring it.

Staff were all very friendly, professional and accommodating.

The hotel is ideally located for business, and is in a lovely part of Los Angeles. It's handy location near malls, restaurants & businesses makes it a good location in which to explore LA by car. Handy for the beach but a bit too far to walk for a 4yr old. Ideally located only 4 miles outside of LAX, but not very close to the city.

Our room didn't include breakfast. The breakfast choice was pretty good but found it quite expensive for the buffet at $21 each. The hotel does do a 'breakfast to go', consisting of a hot bagel with a choice of fillings & a coffee/drink from around $6-7, which wasn't too bad.

Some nice restaurants nearby. In the mall, we liked the Lido & Houston's and across the road is a decent and very popular chinese (can't remember the name).

Overall, we had a great trip, and although I was working all week, it was great to have my family with me. The trip from the UK took it out of our 4yr old, but they got to see some great sights in LA, including Disneyland, which was around 30 miles away.

Room Tip: Request one on the golf side for great views, especially in the morning when there's a great mis...

“Great hotel, minor issues”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I stayed at the Manhattan Beach Marriott for 8 nights with my family of four. We were allowed to have a two queen bed room with one rollaway, although I was told at check in that they normally do not allow rollaway beds for two-bed rooms. The rollaway fit nicely between the two beds, so for the nights we were ok, but it must have been quite difficult for the staff to clean the room. The balcony, which the hotel only has on the golf course side (more expensive rooms) did not have any furniture, but was a nice place to get fresh air and look at the beautiful view of the 9-hole golf course, and up to the Palos Verdes hills.

I booked a rate with 'complimentary' breakfast for two adults and two children up to 12 years old. The first few mornings we had to do some explaining that in deed our older one was 12 and that we had the rate where breakfast was included. (It's not complimentary, as the rate is higher with the breakfast included.) The breakfast buffet is superb, and the gentleman in charge of preparing omelettes got our admiration for his skills and style.

The hotel gym seemed an adequate hotel gym with enough treadmills. The outdoors heated pool was warm enough to enjoy even in January; we were very lucky with the weather, as we had one day in the mid 80's (29 centigrade), although it was the beginning of January. The spa pool was being repaired for the beginning of our stay, but it was back into use after a few days, I did not try it, but the children found it hot enough.

The location of the hotel is great with easy access to I-405 freeway and Sepulveda Blvd / Pacific Coast Highway, and very close to LAX airport. The beach is about 1 mile away, and would be possible to go to by foot, but we chose to drive and walked a lot on the beach and on the walk path. If you park in downtown Manhattan Beach notice that you don't have to go far from metered parking to find free parking, although metered is not expensive either.

Which brings to my mind one of my great complaints: parking at the hotel is organized in a parking carage which costs up to $20 per day, also for hotel guests. That is extraorbitant!!! We paid close to $150 for parking the car at the hotel. That was like staying for an additional night. Another complaint was the price of the internet connection, which was also over $10 per day. That is by no means comparable to the cost of providing the service. There is a free wireless LAN provided at the lobby, but the Business Center computers again have a very high fee, and were all out of order for most of our stay. I used the center once for booking tickets to Six Flags Magic Mountain, and paid $8 for the computer use and printouts. That's too much!

Overall a positive experience, just a bit expensive amenities.

Room Tip: Towards the golf course

“Well Located and Super Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I've stayed at this property twice now and it is a well run hotel. Everything is super clean and mostly well maintained. The rooms are comfortable with very nice beds and linens. Bathrooms are a little small but fine. There is a nice big 42 inch flat screen TV. No full length mirror though. Soundproofing is great between the rooms but you can really hear the hallway in the morning, I put a towel under the door to block some of the noise. A fridge in the room would be nice for storing waters and snacks. Overall the room is comfortable, but the rooms facing the golf course get really hot hot in the afternoon so the A/C was a must.
The pool area is really nice with cabanas, plenty of towels and pitchers of lemon water. The exercise room is clean with good equipment, but the sauna has never been on either times I've stayed there.
All in all it's fine place to stay if you have business in the area and there are many good restaurants close by in walking distance.

Room Tip: Some rooms are really far from the elevator is if that is a problem for you ask for one not too far...

“Excellent hotel room, ambiance, and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

My wife and I were at this property last about 6 years ago at which time we had a number of issues, and were quite unsatisfied. However, our current stay showed a dramatic turnaround with not only a beautiful renovation, but excellent service and housekeeping staff.

As a Platinum Lifetime member with Marriott we were upgraded to a concierge floor room, In this king size room there was a total makeover with warm tones, nice furniture, and a renovated bathroom that saw the tub ripped out replaced by a large room tiled shower area. The concierge room was quite nice with two large screen TVs, and my only issue is that it is closed on the weekend which seems typical with most Marriott properties.

The lobby was huge with beautiful carpeting, furnishings, and a large bar area. The restaurant was huge, and the service personnel including our hostess Maria and server Richard were not only professional and efficient, but had friendly personalities that made us feel great. And, by the way, the food was very good...try the crunchy french toast.

Also, many kudos to Hampton Clarke, AFOM, who made the arrangements for our stay and made sure all are requirements were perfectly met. I also recognize that the parking is a bit steep, but with very low weekend rates it made for a very reasonable daily rate for an excellent experience. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who stays in the Manhattan Beach or vicinity areas.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the golf course side.
