“This little retro-styled inn was a pleasant surprise!”

I needed a room nearby the Beverly Hilton (obviously, I can't spend the $300+ it costs to get a room there). I came across the Azul Inn and booked a room, expecting it to be a complete pit. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how cute and clean the room was! As the previous poster said the hallways are a bit shabby, yes, but unless you are planning to sleep in the the hallway corridor, I wouldn't worry about it. My room was totally cute and it has the following benefits:
1) Um..free parking. Where else can you get that in the Beverly Hills area?
2) Close location to major hotels/attractions
3) Friendly front desk staff (usually people that work at motels are super-rude. The guy that checked us in couldn't have been nicer)
4) Free breakfast (it's not the Ritz, but they had a nice selection of danish, juice and coffee. And it's free...so stop complaining people, geez!)

The rooms are all decorated in a mid-century modern-esque theme, which I loved. The beds were comfy and the room was huge (for a motel).
The area is a bit sketchy if you head toward the freeway, but, again, unless you're planning to wander the streets around the motel at night, you'll be fine.

This is the best hotel you'll find in this location, unless you have a fat wallet and want to spend over $300 a night at some of the ritzy places.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't face the street.

“Nice room.....shame about everything else!!”

The rooms have been refurbished to a nice standard, very clean and cool furnishings.

They should clean up out side as it is disgraceful. Horrid old stinky carpets and filth. You think you will catch something nasty by walking in the corridors. I know they are still mid refurb but they should do something!!!!

As for the staff...so unprofessionally run. The Leslie Chow lookalike/soundalike is so rude......
If Doug calls... I've checked out!!!

Thank you for your review; as you mentioned the hotel is currently in full renovation and is pleased that our last few rooms will be completed by the end of September 2011. After which, we will begin our second phase of the renovation including the exterior, hallways, lighting and the completion of our parking lots. Unfortunately, you can not take care of these items all at the same time; furthermore we would not want to risk damage to the new rugs during the construction phase of the rooms.

We appreciate the opportunity to allow us to let folks know that the hotel is not yet perfect but will be completed soon. I am sorry to hear about our staff member; I am not sure who is Leslie Chow but will certainly remind all staff that they must be courteous, helpful and professional at all times.

We do recognize that you are our valued customer and are regretful that your experience was not to your standard, but I hope you understand that we do care about our business. We hope that you will consider us in the future when the hotel is completed. I can assure you that all of these issues are being addressed. Hope to see you again!

Sincerely,
Denise Detrano

“Newly refurbished: Clean & Comfy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

We missed the side road the first time. Pay attention once your are on Santa Monica Blvd going west and crossed Westwood, stay far right and turn immediately into a side road. A few free parking spots in the front but plenty more in the back of the Inn. This is an excellent more economical place to stay if you are visiting UCLA and all the hotels in Westwood are fulled. The reception was friendly, the rooms were newly refurbished, clean and comfy. Complimentary breakfast was good fresh standard fare. We stayed Saturday night, the place was quiet and restful. Good alternative for us when we visit UCLA.

Room Tip: Get rooms on the second floor

“Pleasant Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

Located on a frontage road directly across from the LDS Temple. Don't be put off by lack of "curb appeal." Looks like an older 60's motel but rooms have been refurbished. Room was IMMACULATE, completely new bathroom, carpet, bedding, etc. Easy wireless Internet access. Does not have an elevator & rooms open to outside (typical "motel"), but neighborhood felt very safe. Very good value for the price.

“Don't stay here - incredible high prices for a room. Crazy!”

Okay, they have some brandnew rooms. Clean. But that is what I EXPECT from a Motel/Hotel! But from the outside this Motel (Ex-Travelodge) looks like a horror-motel! Ugly, unsafe, stinky, dark hallways, and 60(?) years old carpets. This place is a horror! Every Motel 6 all over America is MUCH better!!!!! And the price for a room. Starts from 114 Dollar and up!!!! Plus tax!!!! ha ha ha ha, who is so damn stupid to pay that? Okay, I was..... Never again.

Dear Califrank,

Thank you for your review; the hotel is currently in full renovation and pleased to announce that 75% of the rooms are fully renovated and the remaining 25% of our rooms will be completed on or before the end of September 2011. After which, we will begin our second phase of the renovation including the exterior, hallways, lighting and the completion of our parking lots.

We appreciate the opportunity to allow us to let folks know that the hotel is not yet perfect but will be completed soon. Furthermore; once our customers have the ability to experience our hotel with our new fully renovated rooms including flat panel televisions, coffee makers, mini refrigerators and pillow top mattresses including complimentary breakfast, parking and internet access; they will not only recognize the value for the price (which is considerably less than most hotels in the area- as most hotels are priced over $200.00) they will consider staying with us.

We do recognize that you are our valued customer and are regretful that your experience was not to your standard, but I hope you understand that we do care about our business. We hope that you will consider us in the future when the hotel is completed. I can assure you that all of these issues are being addressed. Further please note, that the hotel is 1.5 miles from Beverly Hills (a great central location) and is considered one of the best neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Hope to see you again!

Sincerely,
Denise Detrano
