The best part of this property is the swimming pool and hot tub. Downsides include a breakfast buffet in a building separate from the hotel (without the ability to take a tray back to your room) and rather strange access to one's room from the lobby, especially later in the evening. But it is adequate as a place to stay on the north side of L.A.

We stayed here when we visited family and it was very close. There were no major hotels in the area. The rate was reasonable and the room was clean. The room was small, especially the bathroom. I finally figured out the flow of the shower on the last day, because it was usually a trickle. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast could use some improvement, the healthy items (fruit) could have been better. All said in done, it was a room.

The pros: great location or Universal or Studio City, free parking, complimentary breakfast, free wi-fi, big beds.
Cons: VERY loud construction work north of Riverside Drive that starts at 6am every day (ask for a room at the back!), our room smelt very strongly of weed, and we asked for the linen to be changed and an air freshener. The linen was changed immediately, but we didn’t get an air freshener and the smell started to creep back. All the bread, muffins and bagels were in a container with very strong banana bread, so if you don’t like the taste/smell of bananas (like I don’t!) then you will be very hungry. The bacon was always overcooked and the scrambled eggs were sometimes green (?).

Overall, it was a good choice considering the location and the price.

We stay here when we visit family in Valley Village and have found it to be cozy, clean with good service, and this recent trip Aug 2011 was no exception. Reasonably sized rooms with comfortable bed and pillows that are not too squishy, full mini fridge (including freezer), a nice pool. Attached is the Mikado restaurant which offers a full lovely breakfast (free) and is available for sensational Japanese food for dinner.
