This place must have been something in its' heyday. The pool area looks nice (at night anyway).
We were rather perturbed that the shuttle didn't come for close to an hour, even after we called twice asking if it was coming. The second time, we were told that it had come but no one was there. Not true, as I myself waited while someone else ran in to call, and there was no shuttle. The shuttle isn't one of the fancy ones that drive by every 10 minutes, it was a battered old white van with a Travelodge plaque sitting on the dashboard.
Finally, it showed up just in time for some people to board with us, that seemed to know the driver fairly well, as they had a detailed conversation in Spanish. A coincidence?
We had a room that was on the highway side of the building. The traffic noise, even with all the windows closed prevented me from getting any sleep. It sounded as if the transport trucks outside were coming through the bathroom.
The room itself was large but could really have used both a thorough cleaning, and then updating.
I'd be more upset at the condition of the room if I was staying longer than 6 hours.
A huge plus was the Dennys that was just outside the hotel, as well as free wi-fi. So many places advertise wi-fi these days, only for you to discover that you have to pay extortion-like fees to use it.
Would I stay here again? Yes, for under 70.00 a night but I'd be sure to ask for a room away from the highway/thoroughfare that this place corners on.

It is always with regrets when a guest finds their stay with us less than pleasurable.
Shuttle Service: Yes, waiting at the airport for over 15 minutes is not pleasant. In a typical day, the hotel's shuttle service transports over 250 people to and from the airport. Even though we are a small hotel we have a shuttle in the terminal area every 30 minutes. Yes, traffic and the congestion of people can result in our occasionally missing a guest. Because of strict security measures resulting from 9/11, drivers cannot honk their horn to attract a person; leave their shuttle to look for a guest; or even park for more than 30 seconds. If the guest does not see the shuttle, the driver has to continue...fines are severe. The use of cell phones and texting does result in a person not seeing the shuttle as it slowly passes the passenger loading area.
When frustrated by a wait at the airport, one's perception can be affected. Shuttle vans entering the airport have to pass several yearly inspections--City of Los Angeles, LAWA, and the insurance provider. Age is not a criteria BUT appearance, signage, and mechanical specifications are! "A battered old white van with a Travelodge plaque sitting on the dashboard" would not be licensed.
Rooms--as noted in previous reviews the hotel takes pride in our clean room ratings. We are inspected by AAA, the City of Los angeles, and Wnydham Corporation -- all have given "A" ratings.
Yes, the hotel's price range is moderate -- value in complimentary shuttle service, continental breakfast, Wi-Fi, parking, newspaper,...a great value as described in other reviews. Denny's adjoining the hotel is also a plus..
Noise -- a reality -- you are staying in "the core" of LAX. For some guests the knowledge of the location -- car, planes, trains -- automatically trigger noise! Manager
