“Awful. Way Beneath HIE's Usual Standards”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Terrible neighborhood. Hotel badly in need of renovation. I will never stay there again. There are plenty of hotels on Century Blvd (around the corner) which are much, much nicer for only a few bucks more.

Elevators are beat up, rooms are not up to the usual HIE standard. Rooms have a weird layout with a bathroom door that swings outward and collides with the main room door. "Business Desk" was awful with a clear glass top which rendered my mouse useless. The phone on the desk did not work. Poor selection of power outlets.

Worst of all, I came out of my room at about 6AM to find a homeless man asleep on the 6th floor landing next to the elevators.

This hotel is in a nasty neighborhood, the elevators should be room-key protected! I am a football lineman-sized guy so the vagrant didn't bother me all that much, I can handle myself. But I would never recommend this place to a female or a person who is at all concerned about security.

I am a Priority Club Gold Elite member, I got onto the PC web site and complained about what a dump this place is.

“Pleasant stay for two nights, booked 2 rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

My husband and 2 of his employees needed to go to UCLA for some continuing ed classes. This hotel is about a 20 minute drive down the 405 fwy and about a quarter of the cost of hotels in the Westwood area.

Check in was easy and we had a pleasant young man, Neely, go over everything very efficiently. Found us rooms near each other, confirmed bed type and he mentioned a Persian restaurant just around the corner.

The room was clean, comfortable bed, free wifi, free parking.

While the area is not one I'd walk around in a lot at night (not scenic, mostly safe) we had no problem walking over to the Persian restaurant, called Pers in the little strip mall right around the corner. Cute place. White linen tablecloths, leather banquettes, excellent food, warm, welcoming staff. We are vegetarians and there was plenty of choices for us and even more for our meat eating friends. The menu was comprehensive and also included pizzas, they seemed to share space with Jinos, and we saw lots of people taking to-go boxes.

Neely, the front office clerk, had also mentioned that if we showed them our room key, there would be a 15% discount. When we asked the waiter, he very cheerfully acknowledged the deal. This place is a find.

We also noticed right nearby there's a Sizzler and a 7-11 where we stopped for a bottle of wine.

Good choice for us and we will be back for the next session of classes.

Room Tip: I always travel with earplugs, but I would recommend a room facing the parking lot, it would be quie...

“Nice hotel, but no quarters!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I had just finished a 2 week tour and was flying out of LAX the next morning to Vancouver, so staying here was a perfect solution. There was a free shuttle to LAX and with Holiday Inn I knew I was staying in a nice hotel.
The room was very nice, it was quiet and just what I needed after a long bus ride.
What I didn't need was a problem with getting my laundry done. I hadn't washed in a week so I had a fair amount to do obviously, and was excited that this hotel had laundry facilities on site, which weren't old but modern, when I checked them out. I only had $1.50 in quarters and needed about $4 to wash and dry the one load. The only problem was the hotel didnt have any quarters anywhere!!! How can you have a coin operated machine without atleast a bunch of quarters kept aside for guests? Normally I would just wave it off as unfortunate, but considering it is an LAX hotel they are always busy and people will want to do their laundry more so in a hotel here than anywhere. I said this to the girl, so I am not just writing it here without showing my dissatisfaction at the time about what was happening.
This wasn't my real issue with them though, because considering i am a 26 year old girl from Australia, who was traveling alone (luckily a guy from my tour was staying there too coincidentally, as i bumped into him in the lobby), so he came with me on my quest to go everywhere from McDonald's (didn't have any), to gas stations and other hotels next door just to get the amount that was needed. It was 9pm at this stage and dark outside, so making me walk around at night to find quarters not only annoyed me but shouldn't be happening in any case, especially in an area that is kind of questionable at night.
Overall, it was a nice stay there. I enjoyed the room and was able to relax once my washing was done, which is why I rated it a 3 and not lower. BUT if they are going to continue to use coin operated anything at this hotel, having quarters really needs to be a priority so no one else has to walk around at night just so they can do their laundry!
Stay here if you know you won't be doing laundry, but if you are then make sure you have at least $5 worth on you. It is a nice place, just a pity the service and help was lacking on this particular stay.

“My Go To Hotel for an early flight from LAX”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

The hotel is easy to get to and has easy parking. I live about an hour from LAX, which is closer to 3 hours on a Monday morning. I always find the staff to be pleasant and the room is always clean. The airport is a couple miles from the airport, which allows them to keep their prices down a little. The also offer extended parking if you just want to leave your car there and take a shuttle.
