“Stay Away From This Place!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

The lobby will deceive you when checking in because it's very nice.

Sure, this place is historic with wonderful old Hollywood detailing, but once I set foot off the elevator to my floor the place became a run down, dirty, dingy, stinky, outdated, filthy, disgusting, musty old mess.

I felt completely unsafe here. The first room on the 11th floor was really, really, really, really bad so I asked for a "better" room. The guy at the front desk then changed me to a room on the 14th floor and it was only just "really bad."

Both rooms had stains on the carpet, dust on the fixtures, and the aura of doom. My instincts told me to check out. I didn't even want to stay long enough to take pictures. Just trust me on this one.

The cab driver who took me to a Marriott around the corner stated that most of the occupants actually "live" at this hotel.

Room Tip: Stay away from here!

“Cheap for Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I hadn't read amy reviews whatsoever of this place before I got there, I had just been driving for like 8 hours, was tired and it was getting really late. I had originally planned on staying at some cheap Rodeway Inn or something that was out in some desolate industrial area and had a beyond rude Indian guy there who tried to raise the rate up to 89 a night from the original 59.. I just wanted to not drive around anymore because I started seeing more and more Florencia 13 gang markings and figured I'm going the wrong direction lol. Every other place we called that night wanted like 79 or 89, it was pretty rediculous.

So I called this place and figured for $59 it would be a total dump but being downtown and not in some gang turf, I didnt care. I was really surprised it has some look of elegance in the lobby, and feel of an old historic hotel. The room was on the 14th floor, and the window opens up the entire way. Not something normally seen at high story hotels. It had a very close view of downtown skyline being there on 7th street. The shower required that you be about 3 ft 11 or less and one leg half length of the other in order to really be comfortable in it. It was slanted halfway at the bottom and 2 different heights and the shower was chest level standing on the lower area of tub.

Other than that, hey it was a room in a central location close to everything, at a very low price. If youre looking for hotel luxury and a place just to lounge at all day, then this isn't the place for you.

“That wasn't too bad.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

I cannot believe how people can be so nasty and irrational when giving feedbacks. I have read tons of negative reviews of this hotel ahead of my visit and that made me nervous of course. I have lowered my expectations then in order not to get disappointed as soon as I get the first-hand experience of what most people refer to as awful service and bad stay in this hotel. First and foremost, the value is unbeatable. It is very reasonable and considering that most holidays are all about outdoor activities, you don't really need a huge, grandiose and elegant hotel - you will only use it for sleeping and a bit of shower. Apart from the price, I thought most of the staff were very pleasant too. Juliana, the hotel manager, was exceptionally nice even before my visit as I had loads of questions through email. The concierge and the housekeepers were also friendly, warm and welcoming. The state of the rooms, I have no issues with. I stayed in a Queen Deluxe room which perhaps may have explained why the state looks perfect and flawless. Should I have stayed in one of the standard rooms, then maybe I could have spotted something else. Nevertheless, it was a good hotel to stay if you are just after the touristy spots. The neighbourhood was my only problem. If you're looking to do daytime activities, this is ok for you it if you are looking for a fun and entertaining night life, I wouldn't recommend not just this hotel but the whole of downtown as the whole environment is dodgy, full of scary homeless people who, any minute, might just grab and hurt you. I might just be exaggerating things but that's how it feels in evening. But I guess it is out of the hotel's control.

“better than it seems”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We have stayed at this hotel several times. Most of the rooms are small but for the price we paid its pretty good.

Room Tip: This time we had a corner room that seemed a little larger than normal. The rooms are generally smal...

“Very bad neighborhood!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

This is a very bad neighborhood, we felt unsafe at night walking to the hotel. The room was not very clean, the internet didn't work for about 2 days and overall they didn't care about maintenance. This hotel is just being squeezed out by the investors before closing down. Oh, and the (american) breakfast buffet is very very very fat and not really fresh.
