We stayed in Nov 2008...nothing to write home about but it did the trick...I'm probably now too old to backpack again but I would recommend it to young tourists 'on the road'like we were...

We had to attend a party at the W and were only in hollywood for the evening. So we stayed at this hotel based on the fact that we could walk to the W hotel for a party. It wasnt that bad. It is like any best western or motel 6. The price was very cheap. Parking was free and location was really convenient. We walked to the W at 10pm and walked back at 3 am. Left in the morning and hopped right on the 101, which is really close by. Also there is a CVC store and 7-11 right there (very convenient if you need to pick up bottled water). The owner was really nice as well. I highly reccomend it if you plan just stay there to walk hollywood or do what we did by attending a party at the W without wanting to pay the high price of staying there for just a night.

As part of our 2 weeks trip on the West Coast, we really wanted to see Hollywood and the surrounding areas, so we decided on this value hotel just one block north of Hollywood Blvd. We stayed for 4 nights (Aug 19 – 22, 2011) and got a decent deal on Expedia of $90 + tax/night.

GOOD: The location is really convenient for walking to Kodak Theatre and the craziness of the Hollywood Blvd as well as a very short driving distance to Universal Studios. We had a rental car and we definitely made use of it in order to see Santa Monica, Malibu, Beverly Hills and Bel Air. The bed was pretty comfortable and the rooms are kept impeccable by some very hard working Spanish ladies. Free Wi-Fi was a bonus.

BAD: The continental breakfast is really only donuts and coffee, but I guess it was better than nothing. The street outside can be loud at times especially on the weekend, but it all depends where your room is going to be. We actually had to change our first night room due to the outside noise and we got the room right on top of the alley which was great since it was facing the court and you had no one staying under you. I’d highly recommend this room if you can get it. Also, Expedia did not charge for this hotel upfront so we had to pay for it on the spot. One thing to really watch out for is that if you pay for the rooms, there is no reimbursement if you decide to go somewhere else. The parking lot is usually not sufficient for the number of cars, so be prepared to park blocking other cars and leave your car keys at the front desk so they can move it when needed.

Overall, we didn’t spend too much time in the room as we were sightseeing nonstop, but we really liked the convenience of the location, the comfortable room and the great value per night.

The man at the front desk has NOT had any additional training in costumer service and/or accurate rate.
I too got a higher price when checking in than online and the man at the front desk was extremly rude and kept interrupting me so I couldn't even finish a sentence. I was totally ignored when I told him so and he got even more rude.
He said he'd been there for 15 years and the hotell has excellent reviews and there has never been a problem about the price issue in his 15 years.
The room was clean, but there were a lot of things broken/hanging loose. You could not get a good night sleep for all the traffic noise. The walls must be extremly thin! You could hear the cleaning trolley being dragged back and forth and everytime someone passes the door it sounds like an elephant walking by. That was really disturbing.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. The location was great, but there are other hotels in the neighborhood!
