I stayed at the Renaissance for several days for a conference with about 450 of my "closest friends". I am a Marriott gold but don't think that had any influence on the great treatment I got during my stay. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The food at our meeting was really good - I have been going to these kinds of meetings for years and this is truly the first time I can honestly say that! The meeting facilities were nice and the hotel staff there also genuinely nice, helpful. There is a small concierge lounge on an upper floor for a quiet evening beverage and snack, once again the woman managing that lounge was very gracious.
The hotel is "connected" to a small shopping mall and just through the mall you will find yourself amidst the crazy Hollywood Blvd area. It is jam-packed with tourists and, well I would call them oddballs, that roam the streets in costume or passing out CDs or selling tours. It is a cacaphony of everything Hollywood represents. I guess everyone has to experience it once. ??
There are any number of restaurants within a couple minute walk from the hotel, as well as a CVS drug with a Fresh and Easy grocery next door, aabout a 5 minute walk.
Spa Luce was nice, not spectacular. The hotel has a small fitness center and a rooftop pool with food service.
My only complaint was with the elevators that I think are possessed. They never seemed to do what you wanted them to do. They often completely skipped your floor and when a light would go on above one, indicating it was going to stop on your floor, it would never show up. A small detail but probably made the folks not with our group want to kill us when 400 of us would need to go to our rooms at the same time!
