“Dirty and roach-filled”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

This place should not call itself a Hotel and Hostel - we got a private room and there was nothing hotel-like about it. Dirty rooms, stained sheets and carpets, weird smell throughout and cockroaches in the bedroom. We didn't eat the free breakfast as we didn't trust it so I can't say what that was like. All-in-all, great location on Melrose and extremely cheap, but frankly not worth the anxiety that I might wake up with one of the cockroaches crawling all over me.

“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

The girl who checked us in told us their credit card machine was not working, but there was no credit card machine to be seen in the office at all. Upon reading other reviews I don’t think they even accept credit cards – something that would be handy to know, as a person who only uses credit and carries very little cash.

Location – Great Location. Very close to Melrose shopping and a short walk to The Grove.

They have a free shuttle that picks up at LAX at set times, only problem is the van does not have much luggage space at all so if there are a few people it can be quite cramped. Other shuttles are very reasonably priced.

Room – Our room was clean, and reasonably maintained. We booked a private room, our room was large with a balcony and as well as our double bed also had a set of bunks in the room as well. Or door to the balcony did not lock, there was a piece of wood to place in the track of the door to stop it from being opened, and the screen kept falling off.

Breakfast – Very cheap and reasonably quality breakfast is sold in the kitchen every morning Some food is free others are 2$. Avoid the hash browns, they are very soggy, I believe they are just heated up in the microwave.

Luggage room is not very secure, it locks, but they don’t check if the bags you are taking are actually yours, you just put the bags in a room with a lot of other people’s bags and hope no one takes your bag when they take theirs.

The lift does not work, so you will have to carry your luggage upstairs.

We would definitely stay here again.

“Basic Value for Money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

We shared a 6 bed dorm and it was OK, the bunk beds were a bit rickety but it was clean and the bathroom was OK, had a bath and shower which was ensuite to the dorm room so only used between 6 of us.

The free breakfast downstairs was good, large portion of cereal and/or toast! For $2, you could get eggs, bacon and a waffle, amazing! The staff are really helpful and friendly and the tour around Hollywood is well worth the money. The tour guide is hilarious! The rooms aren't as noisy as I thought they would be. There's free wifi and computers to use so very convenient. Is a short walk to some shops and restaurants and close to the bus routes for everywhere else. A bit of a trek to the beach though as in the city.

“excellent for backpackers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

we stayed here for four nights in a 4 bed mixed dorm, the room was small but that wasnt a problem, there werent big lockers so we were worried about leaving our bags out but it was fine, small lockers were provided for valuables, laptops etc, available wifi, very quick, also provided apple computers for people to use for free. Free breakfast was very good, coffee, toast, cereal etc. Staff were extremely lovely and helpful. Very happy with hostel and would stay there again, they also do free activities such as bbqs, and if your a single traveller the provide all sorts of tours too.

“POSTACCIO ASSOLUTAMENTE DA EVITARE... ANCHE PER LA VOSTRA SICUREZZA - AVOID, FOR YOUR SAFETY TOO!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2011

Very dirty place, very poor service (brown and black blemishes on all sheets!!); you are in the middle of the street and a child would be able to open the door of your room! In the night none check the main door, be aware! breakfast is poor (toast, marmalade and butter -in wich everybody can take and leave pieces of other things...- coffee, cerals); very noisy and unsafe room. You can listen cars and people all the night, the light enter very early in you room: there aren't real tents! I checked out just 20 minutes later and the girl came to call us in our room, an said us: "next time be in time"!! The day before she had given the key of our room to a boy, who entered while I was in the bathroom!! The girl didn't say us "Excuse me"....
AVOID THIS PLACE, YOU CAN FIND BETTER PLACES WITH JUST A FEW EXTRA DOLLARS!!

PURE!!!!!! no comment, davvero!
